One complete
Dave -
Images 1, 2, and 3 illustrate the problems that I had. 1. The long tab at the rear of the front wheel covers extends too far down and prevents the trailing edge of the wheel cover from settling flush with the body of the vehicle. 2. The second issue was that the wheel covers didn't come to the top of the vehicle side. I eventually worked around this by putting a dab of glue at the top of the curve and sticking the wheel cover there. After the glue dried, I cajoled the front and rear of the wheel cover to conform to the curve. 3. After assembly, I realized that the front tab had also prevented a clean join between the leading edge of the wheel cover and the body. I slid a knife into the gap, inserted a little glue, and pressed down. Not pretty, but less of a gap. See image 4. 4. One completed, with a few rough edges. After my Birthday Lunch at the Thai restaurant, we will see if we can do better with the other one, making use of what we learned from the first one. ah, I see now.
The actual angle of the Arch rise is about 14 degrees. But the long Tab is cut at about 19 degrees. I will adjust the model. Don....you solved the problems as best as possible. Obviously, at this scale, there are difficulties in precise measurements. Fold lines become exaggerated and hard to follow precisely. If one part is not folded exactly, it can throw off a lot of other areas.. When you assemble the Wheel Arches, they should be square. The rectangular footprint has Right angled corners. But because there is only one side panel in place, the Arch assembly tends to spread outwards (on the open side). Whe you install on to the Body, you have to squeeze the open side, bringing the overall shape back to a square/right angle shape. This will also push up the curved section of the Arch, increasing its height. ...and it will now match the outer Side panel Arch.

Thanks, Don for getting photos and expressing the dilemma.
My own fix for the leading tab issues was slightly different. I would glue the first couple of tabs on the leading edge, and then proceed with liberal glue as in the tutorial. This allowed the curve to be matched well by somewhat squeezing the arch to match the curve until it sets

I have printed the Lunar Rover model sheet in preparation of another build...
but... before we go ahead with that, I just want to make sure thats what we want. Since I have already published a downloadable Assembly sheet Lunar Rover Assembly do you still need (desire) a Tutorial for that model? I'm asking in case some of you just missed the Assembly Sheet when it was released. Its a fairly detailed multi diagram that should help most people build the model. But I do understand the desire for a more virtual tutorial. Its not exactly "in-person" but its the next best thing. So, let me know...is the Assembly Sheet sufficient? Should we do a different model? Or, does the request for a Lunar Rover build still stand? I'm okay with whatever you guys want. The Rover is not a difficult model at all. Just a lot of parts.

I Hadn't seen the assembly sheet but now I have it. The rover is high on my list but my vote is for the tumbler.

I downloaded the assembly sheet and it is easy to follow and very detailed. I like the rover but my vote is for the tumbler.

If the idea is practice, I vote the tumbler (medium skill).
However, if is a next level, I vote Batmobile 2015 (advanced one). |

Tumbler is nifty. BUT, those tires with fifteen thousand tabs are a stopper for my patience. The advanced Batmobile 2015 offers new stuff to try. Lamination, tiny stuff fiddy bits. Yeah, even more wheels - at least no tabs on the tires.

Since I already did this one, AirDave's Lunar Rover, with a walk-through, and with your assembly diagram, I'd rather do something else, but I'll do whatever everyone else decides
