Then you must go to the Udvar-Hazy Center, So called annex to the downtown Air and Space. The main collection of aircraft is now at the Udvar-Hazy Center. Including important military aircraft and bits. Downtown is a lot of early man in space stuff. As well as interactive displays. And some jaw droppers. The shuttle is at the Udvar-Hazy Center and you can get close enough that it is tantalizingly just out of reach. Space Shuttle Discovery, Enola Gay, Concorde, SR-71 Blackbird, Boeing Stratoliner are just the bigger aircraft. Lots of on line info as to what is found in both locations. Enola Gay is the most beautiful aircraft in the holdings. That beautiful airplane will have you thinking, a lot.

Take a look at a map while you are planning. The IPMC is in Sterling which is not far from the Udvar-Hazy Center. Natural history is down town. Metro is your friend and the various museum sites will give Metro information. Note open and close times for the various museums since this is off season. Metro is your friend even if you have your own wheels. Parking a car can be fun and provide opportunities for practicing those special four letter words. Although you are planning for off season there really isn't any off season for parking spaces down town.

MY Daughter would argue that the F14 and F4s are the most beautiful in the Museum.
I think the Shuttle is one of the best things there.

I've been to the IPMC twice...and to the Udvar Hazy Center twice.

Our own Anne McCombs works there (as a Restoration Specialist).
Every year she hosts some sort of special trip through the Museum.
Its the highlight of my visits to the IPMC...LOL sorry Don, Pete, Alan, etc

This is one reason I want my Daughter to come with me to the IPMC.
But I have also never seen the orignal Air & Space Museum, so I want to do that.
And the Natural History Museum is what really sparked my Daughter's interest in going.

.....
Oh, and thanks to Anne, the Shuttle was not "tantalizingly out of reach".
Standing inside the wheel wells was especially exhilarating.

Anne? when do i get to go in the cockpit?!

Dave,

Where's the P-51 Tees? I'm specifically looking for the City of Winnipeg Sqn.

Thanks,
Gary

I am working on a Texan and a Mustang Tee.
Just haven't settled on the actual model yet.

I was going to do an RCAF Mustang...but not sure I would have picked the Winnipeg.
I prefer a more generic RCAF Mustang, like the City of London.
Nice red wing tips, no specific name plates.
What do you think?

Problem is, I have to build the kit.
I already have the City of London, and City of Hamilton Mustangs built.
So, those I can shoot some photos of and start creating the artwork.
I don't have the Winnipeg Mustang built.

If it has to be Winnipeg, then I guess I could...

Well, my promotional post stands for folks who have yet to make that trip.

Yep. Both are dusty, but there is sooooo much to see in those sorta small spaces. It's a lot more pressure and stimulation than the new place in Northern Virginia. No places to step back and think about what you have just seen.

I won't be too picky Dave. As long as it's an RCAF Mustang, I'm in.

well...I totally forgot about all the Mustang artworks I have done for my covers.
Of course I have a City of Winnipeg (artwork) that I can work from...

It doesn't have the red wings which I like,
but the blue and yellow trim (on Tail and Spinner) look good
so it might make a good Tee shirt design.

Repost!

My last post got lost in the recent Forum reboot, so I'll say it once more...

BIG THANKS to those of you that have visited my new website
(lots of traffic!!! I'm happy to see)

I hope you all enjoying the recently added KoolWheelz models...there are more on the way!

and BIGGER THANKS to those who have picked up a new Paper Modelin' Tee!

Unfortunately, shirt sales are nowhere near what I need.
The shirts are primarily a fund raiser...
I mentioned that I hope to plan a trip to Washington DC area, this Fall, for me and my Daughter.
She wants to visit some of the Smithsonian Museums and I'd like to make an appearance at the 2017 IPMC.

But it all comes down to funds...of which, I don't have enough.
And that explains the fundraisers.

So...please consider picking up a custom tee Shirt Paper Model T-Shirts

or go buy a model Paper Model Shop Home

or just make a donation paypal.me/airdave

My thanks for all your support, and your help (in making our trip happen).
