Mission Complete
Thanks, Dave. That was good advice. I had already decided to use a similar approach, but was too far down the road to use your idea of a center bulkhead. Will do that if I try another one.
What I did was print out a bond paper copy of the tank ends and valve cover, laminated them to 1mm card, and cut them out to bolster the relevant parts. Images 2 and 3. Incidentally, I used Bernie's (cardist's) idea of buying a set of bamboo knitting needles. I needed a 5.25mm one, but the 5mm was close enough for the exhaust stacks. Image 4. The final model is not exactly dress-right-dress (among other issues, there is a slight nose-down tilt to the truck bed and fenders/wings/mudguards), but it is in the ball park, and, to the best of my knowledge and belief, all six wheels touch the ground. Images 6-8. May have to skip the next one or two unless I make some better progress on the writing project. Don |

I've never seen a stack of wooden blocks that isn't lopsided, crooked or leaning...
so your truck looks perfectly realistic to me! And the fact that all six wheels touch the ground is extremely satisfying. lol ... How about someone else, who hasn't built and shown a model yet...step up? Anyone? Lurkers...I know you are there.

(I also keep plastic tubes, like old Pen casings) I keep a few on my worktable for use as forms for rolling tubes and other curved parts. And although I keep many sizes of dowels at hand, I never have exactly the right size for every assembly. So a lot of my Dowels have various diameters of paper wrap. To make a quick fitting form, I grab a smaller dowel and wrap strips of paper and/or cardstock around the dowel. Each paper layer adds about .25mm diameter to the dowel. Each cardstock wrap adds about .5mm diameter to the dowel. So its easy to rough guess the needed layers and quickly add some wraps. If I go beyond the necessary diameter, I start unwrapping and tearing off sections of the added paper until the dowel fits into the part. I don't throw any of these away either...if I need a rolled form, I first look through what I've already made. Theres usually something of the right size or close to it...maybe remove a layer or add a little.

I finally finished my wood block tanker
I printed it on heavier stock, so the rolled parts would hold the curl/roll better.

Just in time!
I was getting worried. Another great build of the Wooden Truck. Obviously this model is a bit more challenging than the Easy skill level suggests. Maybe somewhere between Easy and Medium then? The combination of boxes and tubes, sharp folds and curved surfaces makes it a good training model for beginners? Yeah, thats my story, and I'm sticking to it. I won't change the Skill level rating, but I'll remind all modellers that pre-scoring fold lines, pre-folding and pre-shaping parts, and dry test fitting assemblies will always make you models go together a lot easier. I can't emphasize enough, pre-shaping of parts. ... So, as a reward, its time to release the next KoolWheelz model... I think I have everything ready to go... watch for the next model to be published later today!
