So, what do we know so far...?
Ruben usually does this at some point I think, but I'll do it for ya.

Its a Hot Wheels toy car we are looking for.
It was issued before 1980.
No, its not an Original 16 (1968).
It wasn't specific to any region, but maybe just North America*
(*it probably took a long time before Hot Wheels were available outside North America)
Its not purple.
Its not the '74 Rodger Dodger in blue.
Its not a Military vehicle (yes Hot Wheels did plenty of those!).
Its got no direct connection with the 50th Anniversary of Hot Wheels toys.
But hundreds of vintage Hot Wheels have been reissued as part of the 50th anniversary series...I'm sure this one has been too.

I told you it would be difficult, just by the sheer number of Hot Wheels models.
...but don't start increasing those numbers by factoring in colours.
Colour is not part of the answer...even though it is.
[Thats a CLUE]

Is this vehicle's name directly related to a model you designed in the past?

You are wrong....but you are so very very very close, its not funny.

You Googled it...and Google doesn't always give you the correct answer.

Anyone else wanna take a shot before I am forced to give it to him?

lol you're as bad as Ruben.
Googling...then ending up on the Hot Wheels Wiki
and still getting it wrong.

1971 Boss Hoss...is the "Boss Hoss Silver Special".

And there is no "Ford Mustang" from Hot Wheels...at least not back then.

In 1968, one of the Original 16, was the "Custom Mustang" in a dozen different colours.
(Many of the Original 16 were called "Custom something")

In 1970, Hot Wheels released a car called "Boss Hoss" or "Chrome Boss Hoss"
which was a modified "Custom Mustang" casting
...but with no hood, a taller engine, a rear spoiler plate, black racing stripes
and no paint...a polished chrome finish!

In 1971, Hot Wheels produced and released the "Boss Hoss Silver Special".
Part of the regular releases, and part of the Hot Wheels Spoilers series.

You see, not only the names are different, between the 1970 and 1971 models...
but the original Boss Hoss, was an exclusive car not available in stores or as part of the regular series.
It was a mail order reward when you purchased the "Club Kit" from Hot Wheels.

And when I became a member of the Hot Wheels Club in 1970, I scored this awesome chrome "Boss Hoss"!
I never owned a 1971 Boss Hoss Silver Special.

I can't fairly call this a correct answer.
I said I expected to be very accurate with this one.

I had a hard time talking my folks into sending off for it, but I had one, too. Not sure which of my 'friends' stole it, but I had it for less than a week

That's great! Looking forward to the download on Monday!

Not Canada, but the United Kingdom.

There seems to be a cult-like following of the 1974 HW Rodger Dodgers among collectors, and the blue one is the Holy Grail. Apparently there was a small number produced in blue (like a ridiculously small number), and it also seems to be widely accepted that the blues were a UK release. Still on the card they're worth several thousand dollars.

And just look at it-- this is a Hot Wheels that screams "airdave". So given the rarity & specificity required in the answer, this is the path I went down.

Certainly not disappointed to be wrong, the Chrome Boss Hoss is awesome!
