Very nice paint work on the FW, Dave. Any chance of a Japanese Zero?

Maybe a mobile

A Happy New Year to all! I also love all the art work. If they glide, that is a bonus . However, it seems to me this series could be made into a great mobile. Do they still make those things, or is this showing my age. Seems I saw a plan in a magazine for one in my younger years - an allied chasing an axis, or vice versa, in pairs on each wire. Multiple pairs swinging around making a huge dogfight.

Ooh, ooh, a Dutch Hurricane and Zero pair - a Wildcat and Zeke - a Lightning and Betty. A European dogfight, a Pacific dogfight, an Atlantic dogfight - so many options .

Anyone seen that, or willing to design the wire sets?

Keep up the wonderful work.

Regards,
John

More mobiles

And then, when Dave posts that neat Tutor, I think I will do the Snowbirds flight on wires in 1/72, and then the Golden Centennaires, and then the Goldilocks Harvards, then find some Sabres for Golden Hawks team, then the Blue Devil Vampires, then ... (sound of head exploding) !

Sorry, distracted, keep up the neat gliders.

John

Tutor will be the RCAF Tutor Trainer finish only.
In fact, its kind of the odd man out, with all these WW2 fighters!

And, another Axis Fighter ...just for those interested in PTO planes.

The infamous ZERO!

I started this one before the Fw190...a Japanese Fighter was the first Axis plane to pop into my head for some reason?
But I couldn't decide on a paint finish...

after finishing the German fighter, I went hunting again and came across the correct type of Zero (ASM-2) in a Japanese Museum.
The "not white" finish intrigued me.

Was it white?...no...it was actually painted a very light blue gray (or so I have read) that was then brushed with a shellac or varnish.
The varnish yellowed very quickly, turning the aircraft a pale green colour.

Some of the Zero's appeared to be repainted half white...but I don't have any more info on that.
In fact, I know little or nothing about these planes, so don't quiz me.
I just thought the off-white look was a good contrast to the other Glider models, so thats what you get.

And, as I said, my references were ASM-2 version.

So, I decided, with all these WW2 type Fighters, that the CT114 Tutor jet was a bit out of place.

And so, the first thing I have done is regroup the models on my website.
Putting the Tutor model at the end of the collection...
and adding another modern era and Canadian aircraft.

The CC130 Hercules RCAF Transport.

I already had the basics of a Hercules Glider created, but I couldn't see how well it would work and its scale was way out of proportion with the fighter planes.
So I put it away weeks ago.

When I revisited the idea, this past weekend, I ignored the scale issue...making the model as large as possible while still fitting all the parts on a single page.
I also ignored the wing mounted engines.
I designed the C130 Hull...to match the real Herc.
And then I designed Wings (without engines) based on the actual design, but different. More like a Glider wing and deeper.

It looked great.
Didn't fly worth beans.
But looked great! lol

So I added the engines back to the wings.
This not only made it look more like the Hercules again...but it added more nose weight...
and the model actually glides better!

Its definitely not a very good glider model...in fact, its really poor.
But maybe you can make it work?!
I just like the way it looks!

Superb, Dave. I love the Zero. The Herc looks great, I would have never even thought about that as a glider.

Keep up the great work.
