A question to maybe ask is, is there enough exterior detail on the tractor that it won't look too bland at a large size.

I have already been looking at things that are raised from the surface and anything that could benefit from being a surface layered part. There are plenty of hatches, and surface extras and I have been experimenting with various paint finishes. I think its not a problem. 1/16 scale isn't really a ton bigger than 1/24 to cause a drastic visual difference.

Been looking forward to this one Dave. A kit in 1/18 scale would be great and if you do the limber and gun, even better. Everyone then has the option to print it smaller if they wish.
All the best. Bernie |

Trying to move forward...I am seriously rethinking the scale size.
Because this vehicle is not that big to start with, I'm finding the chassis, drivetrain and suspension parts to be considerably smaller than I had imagine they were going to be. And the amount of detail I want to include is become a challenge at 1/24 scale. I did a quick build of the (unfinished design) Frame... it all went together as planned but I had a lot of difficulty keeping everything square and straight. And a lot of this is related to the small scale and my difficulties with that. After some constant twisting, I was able to get it "straight enough" so to speak. Building a "jig" would helpful during assembly, but I'd prefer the model went together a bit easier. After assembling the Frame, and seeing the narrow area between the Frame Rails, I imagined how small the Differential/Axle would be. So, I built it to see! Keeping in mind, these are early design parts...not all of the details are in place or the proper colouring. It wasn't impossible...and the parts went together as intended. I have no issues there. But its small...and some of the detail parts will be very small. The biggest issue is the main tube that runs through the center of everything. It is a 3.5mm diameter tube. And it was tough to roll (with cardstock) ...and create a straight, smooth tube. If i built one again, I would use a 3mm wooden dowel...and wrap it in a single layer of printed paper. But once again, thats something the builder can dream up. I have to put buildable Parts into a kit...and then I can add suggestions for alternate build methods. I might try increasing the axle tube diameter a little bit, but too much will make it proportionally wrong and unrealistic. The only way to improve the assembly, is to change it/simplify it even more... or upscale it. 1/16 scale is looking so much more like an option. And...I got my first request for this kit, by scale...and that was for 1/16. I'm sure many of you may be agreeable to 1/24 scale, but nobody has yet to request that scale. I'm still looking at various ideas for window openings and some interior assembly, but I must repeat, I still have no plans to include an actual Interior even at 1/16 scale. The body relies on interior formers and support.

For what it is worth, I vote for 1:16 or 1:18 scale. a one meter long model isn't that large, especially because it is narrow. And that is only [I]if[I] it is all displayed hitched up.
This looks great, BTW. |

My Centurion and Saladin models are 1/16.
So, that would be the preferred scale (if not 1/24) Little Willie is the odd man out at 1/18. I guess I could do 1/18, but the F-AT is already a smaller vehicle than the Saladin.

You are right, it makes more sense at 1:16 to match the other models. besides, printing a 1:16 model at 89% get to 1:18.

1/16 is far better for using the parts for a r/c build just my thoughts would there be a 25pounder to go with the quad ?????

I felt it necessary NOT to commit to doing the Limber and 25pdr.
The Quad is a good vehicle and model all by itself. And...if the design, build or interest falls short of my expectations, then I am not committed to the additional accessories! lol But...on the other hand...if things go well, I will be that much more motivated to add the extras! I am agreeing more and more that 1/16 scale should have been my first choice. I am almost to the point of adjusting the scale size. The input is helpful.

If it solves you problems with intricate parts, go 1/16, you could always do a basic version in Koolwheelz (use it to advertise the bigger, more detailed version).😺😺😺
