You know what?...most of the frustration was attempting to make measurements,
check alignments, plan what needed to be altered
...all without gluing the fender in place.

And then, when I finally glued it into place, I still had to trim here, bend there...

Because it such an awkward shape, made up of awkwardly shaped parts,
it was tricky to plan ahead.

Now that the parts are sorted out and Instructions will be created,
it will be a lot easier for the builder...if they take their time!
Its one of those assemblies that requires a bit more patience...just don't rush it.

That model is looking so realistic, I'll bet that you could fool some "on-line" military vehicle collectors.

Getting down to the wire now!

Headlamps.
Lucky for me, these are cylindrical headlamp Pots...not domed! woohoo!



Front Bumper...and the springy tow bar thingy mounted on it.
literally two ends of a Leaf Spring, with a rod across the top.
I'm guessing its a tensioner for a tow cable/rope.

Also, the Guide Roller thingy for the front tow cable.

And I tried to make some little hook eyes...but not so great.




Not sure what else I have to do...I am pouring over reference photos to find out.
And I have yet to glue the body onto the frame.
(I added some guide plates to hold the body on the chassis while I work...saved me gluing it down until now.
I might just leave it with those for now, in case I still need to lift the body.)

Time to waste some film and snap a few beauty shots.
(The younguns may not get that reference...waste some film?!
You see...when you only have 24 pictures to work with, you make each one count!))

It really looks great.

You have the replication of glass and Perspex down to a science. Exceptionally realistic windscreen, windows, and headlamps.

During Army Heritage Days, we pointed out the reflection of Omaha Beach in the windscreen of the D-Day jeep. It was a real wow factor.

the printed windows look better in the photos because they are static.
In person, it loses its effect, since the reflection doesn't shift when you move your view.
...but the glossy reflection from the clear layer looks better in person (its hard to capture in a static photo).

I've done a lot of different effects on windows, these aren't my best realism effort (imo).
But I definitely like the clear laminate and i will be trying to use this on any future flat window.

I might even try it on paper canopies.
As long as it doesn't cover any areas that have to be glued, it could work.

On the model...
the only thing I think is missing, is a (side) rear view Mirror
There appears to be only one Mirror on a Ford, on the right (Driver's) side.
Originally mounted on the engine cover.

But this is like my Saladin...I can make the Mirror head and base bracket,
but the supporting arm will have to be made from wire or plastic.

I also need some help...I have to put markings on the vehicle.
I want to properly represent a WW2 Ford FAT.
I would also like it to be Canadian markings if applicable.

But I have yet to find a good reference.
Anyone have a clue?

Keep in mind, I am trying to avoid Chevys and Morris'.
Its gotta be a Ford.

Maybe the nice folks at the RCA Museum at CFB Shilo could give you some info. Wonderful job on this. To me, those great windows seem to say frosty winter setting.
