Miles...that special Budweiser was nice, but I don't think I'll need any more!
I drink so little now because of health issues. In fact half of that pack you gave me this summer is still in the fridge. And probably past its due date by now! lol I have consumed roughly one case(24) of beers in the last 3 years. I think that just about makes me a non-drinker now. I used to enjoy Jack Daniels, but I haven't had one of those in more than 10 years!! I was never a big drinker, but I really miss the JD. ... Those 2D wheels have made a lot of sense. Because I keep removing them to get to things as I am designing. They are lighter and easier to handle... and this way there is no wear and tear on the real wheels. Now, if I could just find the motivation to build those wheels.! They aren't hard to build...in fact, since I have already built so many of them, I know what I am doing. But I've built seven so far (plus a couple of experimental ones)... I am sick of them already! And lets not forget the six I built for the Saladin before this!.

Feel like sorting out the front Armour Shield, but I probably won't attach it for a while.
Another thing that might be in my way of designing. So, first is the large flat plate itself. I'll try to add as many surface details in artwork and I'll recreate some of these as layered details. Not too much I am going to do in full 3D, most will be flat 2D layers. Again, I don't want to go crazy with tiny details. "buildability for mortals" The plate needs to be at least two card layers...I felt four was too much, so I have doubled one side of the Shield, and the other will be a single layer. Problem is both sides have artwork details, so the builder will have to cut two perfectly matched parts. Then they are glued back-to back before being accurately cut. ... Most, if not all, of the rear side add-ons are shown here. Plus the plates(far right) that mount the Shield to the Frame Brackets. The long strips are double layered angle iron parts that need to be scored and bent. The 3D box goes through the Shield. Everything else is flat 2D artwork. ... You can see, no matter how accurately you cut out the front and back sides of the Shield, and no matter how well you glue them together... theres going to be a need to trim places. I don't think this is a big concern if the trimming is minimal. And the part will be edge coloured. ... Cutting out those center holes is the trickiest part. It would be nice if things were squarer...the curves are hard to cut cleanly. I'll try some sand paper and edge colouring. ... get one side sorted...turn it over...and start (trimming) again ! In the end, all this trimming was a waste (for me). I found the opening was a bit narrow in spots, I had to readjust the openings to fit properly around the gun parts. So I had to cut and trim all over again! You'll only have to do it once. ... I started adding the surface details to the rear side of the Shield. I think this is enough. There are a few more brackets for papers and small items ...but I notice that every Gun on display has a different set of brackets. I have the Gun Owners Manual that shows all the little gadgets and brackets and holders. But I guess in real life, some brackets would get removed, or broken, tossed away, or modified. ... For the front side, a lot less surface extras. That 3D box is mounted from the rear side and protrudes through the Shield. it provides clearance for a moving lever. I added the two upper Hinge reinforcing plates, as well as two lower brackets. Near the lower center is a three part bracket that supports some sort of aiming device. ... As I said, I am not fitting the Shield yet, but I wanted to see what it looks like. I tried photographing the entire "train" but its just too long when displayed inline! I had to clear a spot and set it up on the shelf above my monitor to get a full view. I'll figure out some better photos once the model is complete. ...

Bravo Dave.
The "train" has a great look. It was worth waiting for a while to see it all together. Mike |

Forget to give the length...31" (790mm) in total (straight line).
Obviously, when its done, the pieces can be separated or angled for display, to make it shorter. But its still a big display!
