Dave's new/old Forum is papermodelforum.com

As some of you know, I have my own paper modelers forum.
I've had it for almost 8 years!

Why do I have a Forum of my own?...
1. its a quiet respite from busier Forums (seriously, its very quiet! lol you could throw a paper rock and not hit a single paper airplane!)
2. its a dedicated outlet for my own Card interests and help-line for my PaperModelShop customers.
3. its another place to share tutorials and build help
3. its the only place to acquire certain free items from Dave's Card Creations.
4. it allows me to register guests and monitor who acquires my free stuff.

Recently the forum went down, for the third time in about a year, because of hacking and malware issues at the hosting services site.
This hosting company has a real bad reputation and we finally decided it was time to move my Forum and its associated website.
My main websites and store are on different hosting, so they weren't affected.
But now I am in the process of moving everything (5 websites and one Forum to brand new webhosting)

So Paper Model Forum is back!...the address is www.papermodelforum.com

If you accessed the old forum, you may need to update your bookmarks.
papermodelforum.com has been in use for some time, but not everyone accessed the forum from that address.

The new site is still in maintenance mode while I iron out any remaining technical issues,
so you won't be able to log in or register a new account for a few more days.
If you had an account at the old Forum, it will still be there...just log in with your original credentials when the new site becomes available.
If you have any issues accessing your old account, just let me know.

Everything looks pretty much the same...most of you won't even know the location has changed.
I hope to see you there (when you are not here!).

...
I'd also like to thank those of you that sent me messages offering personal support in the last couple of weeks.
And a big thanks to those who bought something from the shop or made a donation.
It helps toward the costs of new web hosting and other technical requirements.
Its surprising how much this "hobby" costs...and sales don't cover everything.
Thanks again to all who have shown support.

Good wishes for freedom from hacking and malware with the new forum.

As you know, I was never very active (it is all I can do to keep in touch with the Paper Modelers, J-Aircraft, and Dickinson College sites), but I will certainly update my registration and check in from time to time - especially during such times as I become beguiled by your models.

Can't wait till its up and running. Sorry for all the unfair burdens you have had to weather. Destructive people can create a lot of difficulty for many others. Your hacked sites are an example of this type of cowardice.

Be well and be strong!

For those that care...papermodelforum is open for business once more!
www.papermodelforum.com is the one and only address to the forum.
Please update your bookmarks.

As I mentioned before, anyone who already had an account should be able to log in with their old credentials.
All accounts should still be there.

New Registrants will notice beefed up verification security.
A few simple questions to answer with your registration.
Although we never really had a problem with spam bots and forum spamming,
this added security will keep those types of non-humans away.

As far as Humans go, we conduct manual vetting and approval of all new members.
We use a number of legitimate Blacklists, and Spam/Malware reporting sites.

If there is any concern associated with your User Name, Email Address or IP, your account may be denied.
Feel free to contact me directly if you are incorrectly refused entry.

Other than that, the Forum has undergone a few visual changes.
Some Topic areas have been hidden, removed, or retired.
Some old posts have been pruned, cleaned up.

There were many areas that did not get the response that was hoped for.
And a lot of areas that required too much maintenance (for what they were worth).
I've decided to streamline the site and remove some of those areas.

New Topics can always be added, and old Topics can be reintroduced.
If you feel something is missing from the site, let us know.

Papermodelforum

Hi I tried to register on www.papermodelforum.com - Index. On the 16th May, I had an email telling me that you had received my registration request and that you would send another one if it had been approved. I haven't received another email yet and when I try going on the website this message appears:

An Error Has Occurred!
Sorry Guest, you are banned from using this forum!
IP blacklisted spam reported
This ban is not set to expire.

I'm not sure what this means as I haven't sent any spam. Could you help me please.

Thank you

We get a dozen or more new registrations every week.

If you applied to access the forum you would have received an email stating that "we have received your application and it will be reviewed"
And yes, you would have received another email if your registration had been approved.

Obviously it was not approved (for some reason).

We (me and my moderators) manually check every new registration (unless I happen to already know you).
We check IP addresses and email addresses against a number of online Blacklists.
We search user names and email addresses for any suspicious online activities.(Google and Bing searches)

If your registration was not approved, then I assume we found something negative.
And we often put a small explanation which you will see when you try to access the site again.
Some thing like "blacklisted IP for spam" or "suspicious online activity".

With the trouble I have had in the past with site hacking and spammers, I have no interest in taking any more risks.
It costs me a lot of money to host, setup and maintain all the sites I have online,
including all the free models I share on my forum and website.
So, blocking or banning the occasional suspicious registration does happen.
Its done to protect me, my websites, and my other members from unwanted happenings.

If you saw the message "IP blacklisted spam reported", I'd guess your IP has appeared on more than one Blacklist for spam related incidents or reports.
I suggest you look into that with your ISP and if you get the matter cleared up, you can always reapply to the forum.

My apologies for any inconvenience this causes you.

You can check your own IP addresses (and email addresses) online to see if you are listed on any blacklists or spam warning sites.

Just search for "IP blacklist" or "Email blacklist"
These are just a few of the sites I use:
AbuseIPDB.com
cleantalk.org
dnschecker.org
mxtoolbox.com
spamrats.com
stopforumspam.com

I cross reference across multiple sites and searches to be sure.

If you find your IP or email listed on any of the blacklists, and you feel it shouldn't be,
you can apply to have it updated and removed.
Sometimes reports and incidents are old...and need to be updated.
Maybe it was reported in error..
Maybe a single IP got caught up in a wider IP ban.

Whatever the reason, you can look into it yourself.
