ah, I see....I was looking for a "former"

so, I would think it should be laminated as a 'former"
to provide the shape for the front of the engine?

(thats how I am going to label it anyway)

lol yes I agree...I have complained many times about the lack of proper instructions.
like every model, there are good parts to the kit
and there are not so good parts...the instruction diagram might be one of those not so good parts! lol

Rare & Unusual Paint Schemes Series 3 - B-24 Liberator

Issue One
is just about ready!watch for some detail pics coming soon!
Just putting on some finishing touches and tweaking some final areas.
In the "final design stage" as it were!

My Liberator series is based upon Marek's 1/50 scale Liberator
(available at ecardmodels.com)

Issue One is actually an LB-30
which required a few modifications to the original B-24D.
-many minor mods to skin panels, windows, etc.
-redesign of the Cockpit area and canopy.
-Engine reshape and redesign
-prop redesign

As well, the aircraft will feature
historically accurate markings and a unique paint scheme.

I have also put a lot of effort into adding surface texturing and weathering
...and am currently in the process of adding 11, 988 individually placed rivets!
(I thought if I did too many, it would look overdone)

I think some of you may like this choice of bird for Issue One,
it has a very "patriotic" theme, using some traditional paint techniques from both American and British forces!

These, too, are going to be made available through ECardmodels?

yes, these will be available at ecardmodels.

a little update and a teaser:

this first Issue release is a B24A (LB30) which has different engines than the B24D
(Marek's original kit is a B24D)
...so I had to make a few design changes.

obvious difference is the engine cowlings are round instead of oval,
with side intakes, etc
I have redesigned the overall engine shape to more closely match the original LB30 engines with a rounded cowling and one air intake inside the cowling opening.
I also reshaped the props to better match the original.

I did a final test build today, of the new engine design...I even assembled a small section of wing, to see how the entire assembly fits together...
and the results are quite pleasing!

heres pics of the new engine, please forgive the terrible printing quality! (my Printer doesn't seem to like my new printer cartridges and I can't get anything to print correctly!)

anyway, a few more design tweaks and she will be ready for the reveal!
stay tuned!

Looks good Dave. Will the other glitches you uncovered in the course of your build be fixed when the kit is released (presumably via ECardmodels)?

Hey, that looks really nice. Is there any possibility that in addition to your possible repaint of "Diamond 'Lil" you'd do the current version of the aircraft as Ole '927 as well?
Again, nice job on those engines!

Ryan
