thanks zot

just a warning...
this is a difficult build (I think)
because its small.

There are a limited number of parts, so things are simplified as much as possible.

But I actually bumped up the scale a bit (more than the usual koolwheelz)
because some parts were very very small.

Those parts are still quite small, and difficult to work with
and so I tagged an "Advanced" skill level to this one.

The engine parts are tricky, as well as the "supplies" in the back.
The prototype you see in the photo below is actually a bit larger than the final model!
Good luck.
Don't cheat. Print at 100%...and have patience.

Congratulations on a great looking model, Dave. The texturing is really terrific.

Dear AirDave:
I went looking at coming movie sites, I first looked to see of there was a remake of the Dukes of "H" no luck then I saw the new Mad Max and said to my self, this is right up Mike ally, I will point out all the designers seem to do the "Interceptor" rather than tackle some of the bad guys cars. However I think that the interceptor is cool looking so another one is fine.
Thanks,
Miles

yeah...subliminal messaging...telling me to get started
on the fifty other koolwheelz models that I already have planned,
and not bother with anything else from this movie.

howz that for subliminal messaging?

and, I lost the files for the Hippo Bus, so that probably aint happenin' either.

seriously...this is as far as I got with the Hippo Bus
but I got real frustrated with trying to make the thing work
and I gave up on it.

and somewhere along the way I have lost the file(s).

Not sure I want to revisit it...but you never know.

Side note...I originally thought there might be a marketing
idea, offering a paper version of the Hippo buses
but the Hippo Bus company moved, from Toronto to Vancouver
so I have no connection with the company anymore.
And I don't do much airbrushing like that anymore.

airdave, these are great!!! Three days ago they showed Mad Max again on TV and today I see your build. It is top-notch! I agree, the texture is awesome!!!

And BTW, thank you very much for all the other models on your site.

okay...I went hunting through dark areas of my computer last night.
And I actually found some old Hippo Bus files.

One file in particular...a coreldraw file from 2010...appears to be one of
the many incarnations of the hippo bus model.

Until I test build it, I won't know if its the last attempt
or one of the earlier failed attempts.
Even if it is the most recent version, I still need to confirm it works as
a basic starting point for some artwork.

I've already been playing with the file and will attempt an alpha-beta
build later on today.

....
For those of you who don't know what the Hippo Bus is...
Heres a video that gives you a complete explanationl:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wyqDfkkCXpM#t=30

Originally this was a Toronto based Tour company
that commissioned me (years ago) to repaint two of their amphibious buses.
I eventually painted the third bus and did all the murals and window decoration
for their downtown Toronto offices.

Unfortunately the company had some problems operating in Toronto
and had to move their operation to Victoria (British Columbia)
so I have since had no connections with them.
(I do know the owner personally, and he still lives in Toronto)

The three Hippo Buses are Happy, Harry and Henrietta
and look almost all the same,
with only minor paint differences and slightly different body styles.

My papermodel will be a blend of things from all three buses
and not accurate to any one single bus/boat
...but I will be naming it "Happy". ('cause I like that one)

okay...you guys brought this up...and now nobody's interested?

sheesh lol

turns out, this corel file that I found is one of the early, unsuccessful designs.
Back end of the thing goes together okay (I have to make a few tweaks)
but the front doesn't.

The "bow" shape was a difficult thing to scratch design right from the start.

But I played around with it yesterday, and after three test builds,
sorted out an acceptable rounded boat shape front end that matches the Hippo bus.
See, part of the problem is also designing a very small model
and a one-sheet, limited part count model.

This is all for the lower Hull of the Bus.
The upper half and top of the Bus is already done.
My original design still fits good, so theres only a little bit of artwork to do on that.

I think I will actually have a working model by tomorrow.
I'm adding a roof top Life raft container (one of the buses has that)
but I will be ignoring the rear access Ladder.
The buses all have a different ladder setup and theres not going to be too much
room for more parts on the page...so I want to keep it simple.

Stay tuned.
