Surely the SW Landspeeder gets a free pass, and as noted previously, there is a car chassis under the shell. To paraphrase - "Don't hate the design, hate the film."

Car....boat...aircraft...whatever your ride...whatever your wheelz.
The Landspeeder is an iconic vehicle in a landmark film.

I was there when the first Star Wars movie hit the Cinema in 1977.
It was great.
Not my most favorite Sci-Fi film, but good sci-fi none the less.

I'm just not a fan of everything that came after that.
Of Lucas and his whole Star Wars saga lies
and all the over-hype and over-marketing of this series.

Of weak sequels with Ninja Teddy Bears
and the whole dysfunctional family element.

I like the original with its physical special effects, and massive sets.
Although, I never really liked any of the characters and actors.
Luke, Leia and Han were constantly rude and arrogant and annoying.
And badly acted.

Obi Wan Kenobi (Alec Guinness) was okay.
Arty Toody was good.
The gold Butler was extremely irritating and needed to be dismantled.
Someone really needed to slap Prince Laya...often.
And the Winkie?...Don't get me started on a man in a hairy cat suit?!

I lost all interest when Lucas reedited the films in the 80s
and used the Home Video boom to nullify the original films.
To me, it just seemed like nothing but money greed all the time.

The three prequels were pointless and weak.
The latest movie is just another modern cgi mess with a very weak storyline.
I'm sorry, but I just don't get the fanatical love and attention.

You don't see Star Trek fans acting this silly.

Well the deadline is tomorrow at 7 AM Alaska time (whatever that is), so I finished making the elements of it last night, but I have an issue with the ground tiles being of different size when I printed them off this time. I've got to sort that out and get photos tonight. I know it has generated a lot of interest with 1600 views since August 3rd. Paperschnitzel designed the Lars homestead after following my thread and created a domed building that I kitbashed for the diorama. After it is posted, I'll do a post here and at CutandFold.info with a brief synopsis of it.

I'd been going through a lull, so I did the Landspeeder and Nemo's car to try to get out of the doldrums. Then this idea took off. It feels good to get creative juices flowing again

Good overview of the Star Wars 'epic'. Remember seeing it 1st showing before the lines started with a buddy of mine and afterwards going through all the books and movies things were stole from.

I remember a very early interview with Lucas, sometime during the orignal three films.
He discusses the idea of a nine chapter saga.
And that these first three movies were the middle trilogy

A few years later...I think when the home video re-edited versions came out,
Lucas states publicly that this was a three part Saga.
Completely ignoring is earlier explanation.

And then, when they made the Prequel films, he publicly stated
that he intention was always a six part Saga, and now he's getting the chance to do the first three chapters.

This seems to reflect the Lucas approach to everything.
Just BS your way through and collect the cheques. lol


Well obviously I am a die hard Trek fan and Star wars will just never cut the space-mustard.

But I must admit, I am fully aware of the faults and failures in the Trek world too.
I can nitpick and make fun of that saga too.
Trek fans are some of the kookiest people around!

If you haven't seen "Trekkies"...do so, for the biggest laugh of your life.

But, in my opinion, Star Trek ToS spawned a collectible and fan culture years after it was cancelled.
Something that grew with every movie and TV show.
It even invented the "Fan Convention"

Whereas Star Wars itself seems to be spawned from the desire to sell Toys and Collectibles in the first place.
There just seems to be too much of a commercial aspect to everything in the SW world.
I think thats my biggest dislike of the Star Wars enterprise. (pun intended)

Speaking of Trek...and since there have been some discussions about the restoration of the Original Enterprise...
I just watched a film called "Building Star Trek".
It covers, very lightly, the Smithsonian restoration and display of the Enterprise,
but it also covers the resurrection of the original Captain's Chair and numerous original series props
for the Trek 50th Anniversary Exhibition at the EMP Museum.

Some of the items acquired, and displayed at the EMP Museum: one of two original hand Phasers,
an original hand Communicator, the only know complete Tricorder,
Chekov's Bridge Console and Kirk's Captain's Chair.
They also have many of the original series costumes including the Gorn suit.

For you Trekkies, its an entertaining film.

For you Blade Runner fans...the restored flying Spinner is on display at the EMP Museum.
You catch a glimpse of it in the film!

I agree with Whulsey and Dave....

I enjoyed the first one - back then it was asked new. But each of the next couple sucked....

I then quit watching. Like is to short to waste.

I have however just seen the recent one. OK. But maybe that's because I haven't watched any for years!

I'll add my agreement there. The first one was great; #2/#3 not so much. The next 3 were a waste of a ticket. #7 I did like, but not as much as the first one. I have to disagree with Dave on the acting. I liked the original characters. I would think that you would have to be pretty arrogant to take on 4 million clones with only one ship !

I waited in line for A New Hope when it first came out, and ended up seeing it a Baker's Dozen. I enjoyed it, just as I did Empire & Jedi. However, once I bought X-Wing & TIE Fighter in the 90's, I figured I gave Lucas enough $$!

Eps. 1-3? Meh, except for the fight between Obi-Wan and Anakin.

The Force Awakens? I found it interesting, but like Kevin said... it's been a few years since I watched any of the SW films; it was a refreshing look from a 'newer' perspective.

Uhu did a detailed model of the Proteus.

Did you know a remake is in the works?

Although, I wasn't a big fan of the original.
"The Incredible Shrinking Raquel Welch" didn't thrill me
I found the movie to be a bit too Hollywood disaster style.
Too much focus on the cast...not enough on the science fiction quality.

Innerspace is hands down a much better film (of the same topic/genre).
And a whole lot more fun!

If the remake is any good, it might stir up some interest in the original Fantastic Voyage
and then I might have the interest in a model.
But for now, I can't give you a positive answer.
