Glad to see this car making some headway. When they do get it sponsored I suspect that they'll run it at Black Rock again. I believe Bonneville has had some bad years with the rain.

Black Rock? It has run (stripped down), to 200mph, at Newquay Airport in England.

Next stop...South Africa

Listen to the Interview with Mark Chapman (4th image down the page).
Here: https://www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-47650453

They built a track in South Africa a few years ago, just never got there (I don't think).
The plan is to test with Jet Engine only, running up to 600mph first to test aerodynamics.

Hopefully that will happen later this year.
If all goes well with the testing, they'll finish the aerodynamics and then think about adding the Rocket engine.

LOL Rocket engine adds another 350mph to the jet speed! crikey!!!

Correct Dave - the plan is to run the vehicle at a place called Hakskeen Pan in South Africa.

It is part of the Kalahari Desert actually and is a dry hard desert area. They (school children and locals) have spent the last couple of years painstakingly picking up all the small rocks by hand in preparation for the run!

Hakskeen Pan means in Afrikaans...

Hakskeen = heel (I think)
Pan = lake.

No water in Hakskeen though!

I have incidentally two variations of the Corgi SSC models!

Not sure why I don't already have at least one of them!
I think I still have the Thrust Corgi.

Got a couple of Thrusts as well somewhere.

Nearly went broke helping to fund that effort, but they made it at the last minute. I remember coughing up to help them get fuel for their final ruins.

Not sure if I mentioned this here...or where I may have posted,
but I'll add a post here....

Last year I entered some scratch built versions of my 'tooned Deora and Hemi Semi Koolwheelz models
into a contest for crazy scratch built Tooned models
on a site where I hang out (dedicated to only Car Toons)
Mainly plastic modelers who kit bash and scratchbuild stuff that honours guys like Ed Roth and Tom Daniels.

Anyway, as I said, I did two heavily modified versions of two existing Koolwheelz models.
Did some 3D layering and added quite a few details.
There were numerous changes to the models, including adding Display Bases.
They are slightly larger than the original Koolwheelz models too, but still pretty small.

In the final voting, I scored about as well as can be expected...paper models amongst a slew of plastic entries!
Seriously though, these guys have been quite accepting of my paper creations,
but in the end, they are still life-long plastic modelers and I can only expect so much.

And then, theres the quality of the other entries.
These guys come up with some of the best scratch-builds and kit bashes I have ever seen!

Anyway...my 'Tooned deora came up short on votes and didn't place in the top 3 of either Mild or Wild category.
I was disappointed, since it was my main entry. I thought it would do better.

But the Judges decided it was worth mentioning and gave it the "Judges Choice" Award.

Surprisingly my Hemi Semi did get enough votes for a 3rd Place win!
And for that I won some prizes!

Prizes on this site are always amazing...I don't know how they do it.
But I ended up with two plastic kits (I really love these Tom Daniels designs!)

and a couple of Hand Signed (by Tom Daniels himself) Prints (Model cover artworks).

They also sent me two large glossy Prints of my Awards (the pics above).
So quite a Prize package I received for my efforts.

I definitely can't complain about the reception and recognition I have received there.
I am looking seriously at the Halloween contest they have running, trying to figure out what I can build next!
