Dear AirDave:
But the Boarder is still closed, we can't get to London, Ont. Canada. And we will miss the car show
Grin,
Miles

The boarder(sic) was never closed, and who said anything about London?! lol
Who the heck wants to go to London?!!

My car show is in Koolsville man.

Actually, right now, my car show is under water.
The water main at the water meter burst in my basement yesterday, flooding my basement.
So right now we are in the process of dismantling the rooms down there.
...Crews were here all day yesterday and today, packing stuff up and assessing the damage.
They brought in these big fans and dehumidifiers which are running constantly.
Hoping to get crews back on Monday to finish the work and start the repairs.
Some wall panel damage, all the carpeting has to be replaced...and a fair bit of furniture damage.
As a result, all my hobby work has stopped and I may be without a computer too.
Oh and...a big thunder storm just rolled into town. Goody...basement leaks.
Happy Fathers Day.

Hi Don
There was 3-4" of water covering the basement floor, so no immediate water damage to anything higher up than that
...but I had to hastily pack all my models into boxes and plastic totes before the clean up company showed up.
Their methods of packing things wouldn't work for the fragile models, and splash damage would have been the biggest concern.
I figure there will be a lot of damage from the packing since I did not have time or luxury to securely pack as I would for transport.
But thats okay if I lose some kits...its time I thinned the herd anyway.
Most models just sit on shelves collecting dust and are never seen by anyone else...and I have plenty of photos of every model I have built.
If anything is severely damaged, I will just pitch it.

It's too bad. We have twice had basement flooding on a small scale, nothing like you have endured, but there was some loss in both cases. I sympathize and hope all will soon be once again ship shape and Bristol fashion.

I was making a joke about Miles comment, but he is somewhat correct.

The US/Can Border crossings have been temporarily partially closed for 3 months.
The closure has been renewed on a monthly basis.

But it only applies to land passenger traffic (cars and buses, etc) and only for what is deemed non-essential traffic.
The Border points are open to all traffic for work, commercial, school, and humanitarian reasons.
(I would class a Koolwheelz Car Show as Humanitarian?)

Its seems people are getting in and out using all kinds of excuses.
And of course, passenger air and boat travel are not under any restrictions.

Even Americans are using a loophole to car travel into and out of British Columbia.
For the purpose of traveling between the US and Alaska.
Travelers are not supposed to stop in British Columbia, but they are. LOL
Hotels and Stores are reporting plenty of US visitors.

Since its a finished basement (3 rooms plus bathroom and laundry room) the damage and disruption is serious.
And my hobby work space is temporarily gone...with all my modeling supplies/tools/materials outside in the big storage container in our driveway!

Luckily the Insurance company has said we are completely covered, so thats a good thing.

Hopefully all will be repaired in as short a time as possible, but I can see this taking weeks rather than days.

As long as I can keep working on the PC, all will be good....I can at least keep designing stuff even if I can't do any test building.

The adjuster claims that almost all my bookcases and shelving units will need to be replaced (chipboard doesn't like water!)
but there will be a major reshuffle of what models go where and what goes in the trash.
I don't plan on rebuilding anything...just move on.

You know what my biggest heartache is...I have collectible posters.
Some framed, some rolled, old auto and racing stuff.
A lot of original movie posters.

And I also have a lot of my own paintings and airbrush art in the workshop.

Most of it ruined from water damage of varying degrees.

I've been taking apart framed art this morning, stuff that water has wicked up and through it.

A lot of this stuff is sentimental...no great value...but its a shame.

My goal today is to get out and purchase a small fish tank, so I can move my fish temporarily.
Their big tank is in the way of cleanup, and the stand is water damaged and will need to be replaced.
