Tutorial? in what sense.

I did a little video showing the build up of the Captain Scarlet SPV.
But its not really a tutorial on how to build.
Theres too many models to do build ups on all of them.

if you mean how do I design them?...well thats my secret.

lol to be honest, theres nothing much to tell, since the designs usually come out of my head.
I decide on a vehicle, then I go looking for reference images.
As I collect reference, I start to concoct my KoolWheelz version in my mind.
I usually uncover details and elements that I wasn't aware of that change my design,
but its all about creating that folded paper model in my brain.

The paint scheme, textures and details are important, but first I come up with a simplified pattern of the object.
And once I have that basic idea, I go straight to drawing it out in 2D, unfolded.

Many designers use 3D programs...like Sketchup, Rhino, etc...
and to draw a cube they create a cube in their program, size it
and then unfold it into a flat 2d cutout with glue tabs.

I imagine the cube in my head and then imagine how it must unfold,
and then I draw the unfolded 2D pattern.
I use as much Math as possible to keep things accurate and allow the software to give things like mirrored panels and sides.
But I have a mental image of the unfolded parts before I start drawing.

Then I usually print out a white version (limited colours, textures, details)
and test build to see if my design works.
if not, I make the necessary changes and scan the altered parts.

Some designs are straightforward enough not to require the white build.
Like the Shuttlecraft.
Only changes I made to it, were to alter the mounting brackets for the nacelles. The test build showed me where I needed an extra tab.

For some parts in my designs, I refer to existing models.
For example, if i need a dome front for the nacelle, I go to another model (in this case my AC-130 Gunship) and pull out the parts required to create the dome.
And that dome was actual a redraw based on a "Globe" model that I downloaded off the net.
(I cut the globe in half and extended the straight edge)
I will make the necessary alterations to the part to adapt it to my model, but why waste a lot of time trying to design a part that has already been designed?

I am an Artist by trade, and I studied Commercial Art in school, and the first thing you are taught is never design something that has already been designed.
I'm not talking about stealing unique design elements, I'm just talking about borrowing the basics...
I have the skills to designs the parts for the domed structure...but why do it over and over, every time I design a model.

If someone needs wheels for their model, I have no problem with them taking a wheel template out of my model, and retexturing it.
Its not some secret rocket science...its just a simple template that anyone could design.

My point is, a lot of my "design" process is "imagination".
I design the final unfolded 2D pattern...first... in my head.
And sometimes the designs involve "dirty" build trial and error.

and, every time I design a new model, its like I ignore the previous designs and start blank with each new one.
There is a real lack of consistency in my design method.

So, does that answer some questions?
Does that answer the right question?

So, don't be too picky about accuracy.
(Thats goes for all my KoolWheelz models!)

A large scale version of this car would be a very nice kit, if you got the colours and textures right.
well? i have to tell you i do and i don't? anyway i use real images from real cars and i draw them on a light box i don't know if you know what that is? dave. well anyway i draw the left side of the car with a pencil then i draw with the right side by folding the pieces of paper together and drawing on both sides then i draw in my head how the top and body would fit into place. i will make it big thou you would like it or not you have never seen my drawing techneck yet i allso have a webpage too not to shabby but a free one and you don't have to ever pay for it either but i love your web site you do such great work on it i like movie cars too and tv star cars
