Im a huge fan of the shows by Gerry Anderson, so its no wonder I've already done some Anderson related Koolwheelz vehicles.
But there are so many vehicles to choose from all the Anderson TV shows...and some of those vehicles have already been modeled in paper.
It raises the question "do we need another?"...but I think some are just too important to ignore.

Unfortunately some are just too complicated to attempt in my Koolwheelz style.
Re-creating complicated shapes in paper is hard enough...but small scale, low part count, one sheet models are an even bigger challenge.

I would have to say that Captain Scarlet is my favorite show...if we are talking about technical aspects: the vehicles, the look, the sets, the realism.
I've already modeled three of the important vehicles from that show...and I wanted to do more.
And that desire led me to the most notable non-ground vehicle in the show, the Angel Interceptor.

Right off the bat, I knew an Angel Interceptor could not be faithfully reproduced as a Koolwheelz model.
I would need to make it boxey and a lot more simplified in its design.

But it seemed like a fun challenge, and a good experiment... thats why I gave it a try.

For those of you that don't know much about these aircraft from the 1967 TV show Captain Scarlet versus The Mysterons, heres the scoop:
Three Angel Interceptor fighter aircraft operate from Cloudbase, the airborne aircraft carrier of Spectrum.
Spectrum is the military organization that provides security and assistance to the World, as established n the World Peace Charter of 2067.
The fighter squadron is flown by a team of five female pilots known as Angels.

These imaginary jet aircraft are single seater, with a range of 25000 miles and a maximum speed of almost mach 4.
They are equipped with Rockets and Cannons and high tech surveillance equipment.
of course they are inspired by various fighter aircraft of the time (late 1960s) and feature a number of obvious design elements.
For filming, the Interceptors were created as scale models in two sizes...7" and 26" versions.
A full size (puppet scale) mid-fuselage cockpit section was also created for cockpit close-ups involving the Angel pilots.

I had all the original Dinky diecast Captain Scarlet vehicles in the 1960s, but Dinky never produced an Angel Interceptor.
Decades later Corgi produced a diecast metal version in the same style as the original Dinky toys.
Airfix models did publish a 1/72 scale Angel Interceptor kit in 1968, which was retooled and rereleased again in 1980.
A number of Japanese plastic kit makers have produced Angel Interceptor models since the mid 1970s.

Obviously the slender tubular shape of the fuselage doesn't lend itself easily to a Koolwheelz design.
I decided to follow the same simplified style of other Koolwheelz models by boxifying the shape.
Even simplified, my cubed version is a challenge to build with its very small scale and long tapered nose.
You've been warned!

The Angel Interceptor can be found in the SpaceCarz section of Koolwheelz.
And there will be an Assembly sheet posted in the Koolwheelz Assembly Diagrams section of my forum.
S.I.G. !

I’m in love. Gotta build it. Great choice, Dave. I never saw the show, but was smitten with the Interceptor from the Airfix kit.

What a wonderful job. Pity Dinky didn't make one, but I did have the Airfix kit though. Wonderful looking aircraft.😸😸😸

I totally forgot about this until last night (when I found the PDF in my files)
but Gary Pilsworth put out a more accurate model of the Angel Interceptor back in 2016.
Its more realistically shaped, but also a lot more complicated to build.
Its a free download here.

So now you have a Koolwheelz version too!

oh what the heck...its been a gloomy rainy weekend, and tomorrow many of you have to start a new work week.
I've decided thats reason enough for a new Koolwheelz teaser, and a new model next Friday!

yes, its honestly a real movie poster!
