Dave's Kool Game

Card modeling, for me, has slowed...sorry, but I've a new co-passion.
Since the Fall of last year, I've been designing tabletop games (Board/Card/Dice games)

It started last year, when I was looking for ways to market a Cribbage board I had created about 20 years ago.
I had created, and regularly played, a Stock Car racing themed card game.

In 2022 I came across a site (The Game Crafter) that helps you manufacture and sell all kinds of tabletop games.
They provide a print-on-demand service with a wide range of customizable game parts.
This means an affordable way to get your ideas to market.
So I set about redesigning/recreating my Cribbage game into a sort-of board-game.
That became "Super Speedway Cribbage".

While working on that project, I got the idea to create something unique for my Daughter.
Something related to Rodeo Barrel racing, which she competes in.
Things didn't go exactly as I had planned, but I did create something very unique, and presented it to her for Christmas.
I have since redesigned that game for the public: "Turn 'n Burn - The Barrel Racing Game" comes in Pocket and Party editions.

By this time, I was enjoying the artwork and design side of it all...too much...
I was spending way too much time on all the artwork and detail...and loving it!...it had to continue...

So, I immediately set about creating another "Rodeo" related game.
Something that had buried itself in my mind when I was creating the first game.
And that became "Busted Barrel Racing". (lol originally Drunken Barrel Racing, it evolved to be more family friendly)

I am just wrapping up work on BBR...right now organizing a test game session with my Daughter and some of her friends.
The game is proofed, printed and finished...I have a complete test copy in hand...but not publicly published yet.
A final run through will allow me to double check everything, get some honest reviews, and shoot some photos and video.
If you wish to know more about BBR, please visit my site or my facebook page.

Which brings me to my newest and current project...
an idea I had a long time ago, and only recently was inspired by my paper modeling, to put on the design table.

I always wanted to create a tabletop game about Drag Racing...specifically vintage Drag Racing that I knew and loved as a younger person.
The late 1960s to late 1970s was, in my opinion, the koolest period in Drag Racing history.
And the cars and drivers from that period have gone on to be legends of the sport.
I have a special love for hot rods and kustoms from that period, as it shows in many of my Koolwheelz model designs.

And, I imagined a way to connect or even incorporate my paper model designs into the game.
But maybe, not specifically dependant (on paper models), since I want to market the game to any tabletop game fan.
So, I focused on my game idea and decided to add a paper model connection at a later time.

I didn't actually have the name for the game until much later into the project.
I realized, once I had settled on a paper modeling connection, that the KoolWheelz name would work for the board game,
even if you didn't already know the name or get the paper model connection.
Lets face it, Drag racers of that time were the Koolest Wheelz!

More to be revealed...

Interesting ideas there Dave. One of my childhood friends, his dad was a Volkswagen
manager, and was really into Midget racing. We went to a race one summer evening and that was a lot of fun. His dad even had one in the back part of their extra long
garage. Well actually the wheels, steel frame, seat, steering wheel. No panels, No engine, but fun to sit in a push each other in and out of the garage and hope we wouldn't get in trouble with his dad's weekend pet project. I don't think they ever got
to finish it.

Yep late 60's, through the 70's what seems to be a easier carefree life time.

First, I'd like to show off some of the artwork!

The Koolwheelz Classic Drag Racing game has two main elements: cards and a drag strip Game Board.
There is a large set of kool cards that you collect and sort and play the game with.
In that set, there are 18 unique Race Car cards...so I had to create 18 classic drag race cars for those cards.
The banner image shows some of those car artworks I created.
Those same original artworks have been used in the fantasy Racing Event posters (shown below) which are also part of the playing card collection.

At first I created all kinds of colour and black and white artworks of various drag cars.
In the end I settled on a design style for the cards themselves, and that helped me settle on a style for the drag car artwork.
Some of the artworks are inspired by well known racers of the 60s and 70s.
Others are more obscure classic racers of that period.

Fascinating project, although there are no images in Post #6 on my computer screen.

Maybe give them a moment to load?...there seems to be an issue with mediafire today.
I had a lot of trouble loading their site, and getting my links to work.
As I am looking at the post...it took close to 30 seconds before the images suddenly appeared.
So I don't know whats going on.
I can't edit them post now, so I will have to repost if they stay hidden.

Seems there is an issue with the mediafire site...where all my images and files are hosted.
I can't access their site without long delays in loading...
my linked images (like the ones in my last post above) are taking forever to load.
Images on my own forum are not loading.

They do seem to load eventually, you just have to wait for it.

I have a support ticket open with mediafire, hopefully to resolve this issue.
Sorry for the inconvenience.

Just as an FYI, when I clicked on the topic this time, there was virtually no lag in the images loading. Probably too early to think the issue is fixed, but at least this is hopeful
