Gil, The 45 star flag was used for 12 years, from July 4 1896 when Utah was
made the 45th state until July 4 1908 when Oklahoma was made the 46th.
Cheers, Google U.S. flag facts. Wiki

Here's what the 45-star flag looked like:

photos requested of Olympia

l wonder if anyone in the Philadelphia area, or planning on being there in the near future, might be able to pay a visit to the OLYMPIA and possibly take a few photos to reveal spots not necessarily seen on the online photo sources. Attached is a diagram showing what I would be interested in getting a better view of, essentially under the upper bridge deck forward, under the aft bridge deck, and some views showing areas on the upper enclosed deck area, per the diagram.

Any scouting reports and photos would be very much appreciated!

Thank you in advance!

Cheers!
Jim

Jim

I was there in May 11 and my pics are here: hopefully one or two might be useful for you?

Hello Jim,
I think your Olympia project is going to turn out well. Great ship. Looking forward to more about this.
Mike

p.s. that is a great image Gil posted of the Indiana class (Oregon) battleship in dry dock. Also Simon's images should be helpful.

Thanks so very much, Simon...what a wealth of great shots!!

Thanks, Mike! I do so agree! With all the generous help provided this should turn out very well. Personally, I think this is a great looking ship and one with such historical importance that I would like to think her legacy can be preserved if not made the subject of more public concern with the reasonable availability of a model. If the various editions of the plastic and, more recently, resin kits out there are any indication there is a fair amount of interest amongst ship modelers for this vessel, so I hope that remains true for a paper model as well.

Wishing everyone a very Happy Holiday!!

Cheers!
Jim

Just out of couriosity, what sub was that? I can tell she's a GUPPY sub. Was on the USS Cobia once, which is moored at Manitawoc WI, and my hat is off to the crews of those subs, can't see how they gotaround in them when going to General Quarters without braining themselve!
