From the point of view of an Aussie the Olympia MUST be saved. History is important to the world - if there was none we would stumble badly and have gotten nowhere. I don't have the skills or the computer power to come up with a model but I sure would have a go at building one!

Hazzard, Australia has it's own ship to save ,the Cerberus, rotting away in Melbourne Harbour.

When the Warrior came up for restoration at Hartlepool, local unemployed were used, training schemes set up for apprentices, and a whole new industry was created. Is that the answer to the Olympia - and maybe even Texas ?

Speaking of which, it's hig time we had a paper kit of Warrior and perhaps Gloire.

Would a 1896 Philadelphia Enquirer model of the U.S.S. New York work for you?

Cheers!

MY Uncle and I are building the squadron 1/250th plastic and brass model of the Olympia, and I would love to see this come to life, as he will be keeping it whn its done, and I really like the look of the ship

Hey there Rebelatsea, Paprshipwright have models of Cerberus in two forms = a simple one for free (1 dozen pages +) or a more detailed one which I believe gives some funding to the restoration project. I am a novice at this so I am starting with the "simple" one, because it is "simple" and at the moment I just can't stretch my pension far. When it's done I'll post it,here.

Hi Hazzard, I have the Cerburus from Paper Shipwright. Even the "simple one is difficult i think for a novice, so just give me a shout if you have a problem. It does make a lovely model though.

I've been supplying info to the Cerburus project for various articles in their magazine, the latest on turretships. but haven't had contact for some time.
