I-400 in 1:100 Scale!!
If you can do Surcouf, and you can do Kursk, then why not do I-400 at 1:100?
Just asking! Jim

The first thought that comes to mind in reply is this:
Much beyond 1:100 and the model becomes damned-near large enough to live in! The serious thought becomes the simple practicality of having somewhere to store or display said model. Not all of us have the option of adding an annex to the house. Kind and Respectful Regards Jim my friend, Uyraell. |

Exactly!
The I-400 was 400 feet long. At 1:100 It would be 4 feet long. This I know!
My 1:160 SURCOUF (330 ft) is 27 " long To maintain constant scale, I would have liked I-400 to have been 400/330 x12= 1.21 x larger. But, so what? 27 x 1.21 = 33 Inches. Beam in ratio. Unless and until somebody rebuilds/rescales this model; what you see here is what you are going to get!! MTF! Jim PS: Uraell: We are on the same page!!

Jim, have you ever considered building the M1, to "complete the set", as it were?
I'm aware both M1 and X2 were converted from what had originally been intended to be K-Class hulls, but I'd never suggest a K-Class or X2. The M1 though, was reasonably good looking, and would make a fine companion to Surcouf and I-400. Which is why I wondered if you had ever considered building the M1. Need a change!
Urayell, my bro!!
I think that after the I-400, I will be all sub'd out, at least for awhile. Sergei and the Tractor Plant Boyz are really pining for a "Warsaw Pact Armour Project" and this just happens to have coincided with the release of Ripper's 1:32 DANA wheeled SPG. First, tho: finish the I-400...aka as the world's most expensive cardboard model.. MTF Jim

Can't say as I'd blame you for feeling "sub'd-out" after the I-400 Jim my bro!
Hell, I'd be feeling the same were it me that had built it. The Dana looks interesting, as does it's Sth African "cousin" which has also been released recently, I think either Tekzo or Paper-Replika refers. Kind and Respectful Regards Jim Bro, Uyraell. |

Now there's an idea...the Polish maritime modelling magazine Modelarstwo Okretowe published 1/150 plans of each of the 'M' class subs in its Special #9 in 2010 (Modelarstwo okr?towe). The publisher doesn't seem to accept credit cards or Paypal so the easiest way to get a copy may be through GPM (GPM - modele kartonowe)
The last post on page 2 here The Ship Model Forum • View topic - New polish magazine for shipmodeller MODELARSTWO OKRETOWE has more info in English on the content of this magazine with images of the real M-class subs...

Calvin and Hobbes
I found an old poster that I used to have in my Wpg Workshop.
It featured Calvin, with the caption "GOD put me on Earth to accomplish a certain number of things. Right now, I'm so far behind, I'll NEVER die!!" I like this dictum.... Jim
