U.S.S. Wolverine and U.S.S. Sable

Has anyone seen any models of these ships? They were side-wheel steamers converted into training carriers operating in Lake Michigan during WWII.

Hey Wayne, sadly very few people are aware that the Navy used these ships on Lake Michigan to train pilots during WWII............ I've never see a model of them in paper or plastic.

Heck if it wasn't for Rob Carleen working on restoring a SBD and now A F6F that crashed during training I would not have even known about them.

WOW! Those ships would be great models either as the training carriers or as the big passenger steamers they origionally were.

Hello, Wayne!

Some years ago, Oliver Weiss (Waldenmodels.com) announced his project of a 1/250 scale (waterline?) model of the Wolverine as an aircraft training carrier, but obviously he's been too busy otherwise...

Kind regards -
Papercaptain

Here's a thread with a bunch of pictures of these 2 ships. Cool stuff (at least to me who grew up as a Michigander).
