Budd rb-1

Has anyone given though to creating a model of the Budd RB-1 military cargo aircraft. You can see a picture of this aircraft at https://airandspace.si.edu/collectio...oga-photograph. The Navy ordered 200 of these, but only bought 25 of them. The Army contracted for 600 as the C-93, but cancelled the contract due to delays and cost over runs. Has similarities to the C-123 which we lovingly called the "Banana Bomber". Flew in the C-123 a couple of times (which was enough).

That thing looks as much like a cartoon of itself as a cartoon would. I'm sure its proportions make sense functionally but they look a bit goofy.

That would indeed be an interesting aircraft to build.

Rivetless Stainless Steel Design

Stainless Steel stressed skin fuselage using no rivets. Elevated flight deck, tri-cycle gear and rear loading affected later designs of transport aircraft (think C-130). Lasting power of stainless steel shown below. Kind of grows on you...,

Murph had talked about it at one time since there's the pieces as in Gil's post at Pima.

There was this crashed one that was turned into a hamburger joint in Fort Worth. Tried to find info on it, but couldn't find anybody that remembered it. Too bad my dad isn't still around, he knew FW like the back of his hand and loved burgers so would have probably remembered it.

Would like to see a model of it also.

Speaking of the elevated flight deck, a friend of mine was a C-124 pilot back in the early 1970s. He said take-offs were fine, but on the return it was like trying to land a 3 story building.

I have plans to do this one. I've also molested the one down at Pima multiple times (every time I go down there, I snap a few pics of it). I'm just waiting for that flash of inspiration that drives me to design it. Pima only has what's shown, so I'll pretty much have to make up the rest based off of images and any 3-views I can find.

The one available from 25_10_2911 seems adequate for purpose but you're gonna need at least a couple
of fuselage formers to give builders anywhere near a chance of finishing with a realistic shape.
