Extra 300s in the works but, little or no progress

I've been attempting a basic design Extra 300s with Meta. But I have zero experience with 3d software. So three failed attempts so far. I'll keep y'all posted.

Keep it up! I've been looking for a model of this nice plane. It's just begging for a Red Bull paint scheme

Well lets see what you have (screenshots please) and let us know where you are hitting stumbling blocks. I know we have at least one designer that uses Meta pretty heavily.

Well so far I've killed every attempt. I guess this will be a learning experience. To add to the great list of all I do not understand about this software, I have yet to figure out how to grab screen shots. any advise would be greatly appreciated.

My first few attempt have been to start with a cone. 11 "formers" and 18 linear segments. Then stretch it out to length, scale the "formers" o.k. so far. But when i move to the side view, I'm lost. It is at this point that I am not sure what steps in what order to take.

OK, I've actually feel like I'm getting somewhere. Still slow but I'm quite new at this.

Still totally lost about how to shape the canopy (where it meats the fuse) but the shapes are roughly beginning to resemble an airplane. If I could get some links to fair sized tutorials I would be extremity appreciative!!!!

Nice looking start. I hope you're able to sort out the canopy issues and continue with it.

And yes...a Red Bull Racing scheme would fit this plane nicely. Doesn't Peter Besenyei fly a 300?

Thanks Ashrunner. I came across a photo of Besenyei piloting an Extra 300. I haven't been able to keep up with the series this year "poor cable coverage" but last year Pete was in an Edge 540.

I have the same problem keeping up with the air race unless I go to the net. I don't like doing that because sooner or later, I probably will see the races on cable and don't like knowing the ending of something I haven't seen yet. 8v)

But I hadn't heard Pete was flying a new aircraft. His Red Bull 300s from a couple of years ago would be nice though.

So as far as the model, well it's coming slow. But I did a little research and it turns out Pete Besenyei actually invented the whole event!! RED BULL air race that is. Turns out He did in fact fly a 300s. and at some point moved into a Zikov Edge 540. Check this site out.

Peter Besenyei inventor Red bull Air Race and pilot

Thanks for the motivation. I can't promise perfection but I promise I'll try to at least finish this... hahahahaha!!!!!
