Dear Gary
You are an angel, my first R/C model, my first R/C crash. So many memories !
I may build the famous "Clipped wing" version.
I was tidying my bedroom and I thought "If I don't move that loudspeaker it might fall on my Super 60 wing when I move this shelf"
"F56k it, it'll be alright"
Move.
Plummet.
Crash.
Exit one Super 60 wingtip and one bay of the port wing.
Pause for bad words.
Shall I build another wingtip and bay?
Nope.
I shall remove one wingtip and one bay from the starboard wing, should be O.K.
I flew my super 60 "Reduced" for years until fuel finally loosened all the joints in the engine bay and it flew wonderfully without the extra area.

Hi All,

And hi, sprogs and GaryPilsworth. Gary, I was so glad to see the Super 60 that I just had to give it a try. Attached find some photographs showing my build of your R/C trainer. Sorry there are no construction photos, but I did it on the quick, as there is some money to be made on my bench at the moment.

Liz, it seems you had some pretty good times with your Super 60, even to the point of some judicious wing trimming to keep it in the air. With a 63” wingspan, you could easily lose an inch or 12 here and there. I hope you give Gary’s model a try. Everything went together without a problem until I got to the cowling. As I kept building the cowling onto the fuselage, the parts got smaller and smaller, until my bumble thumbs made themselves known and you see the slightly wonky results. If I had more time, I would have stripped it off and tried again, but this will have to do for now. As the sage says, “Nothing is so permanent as that which is done temporarily.”

My landing gear is bent aluminum sheet, screwed into a piece of picture framer’s mat board glued into the bottom of the fuselage. As for the wheels, I left the hairy, scary spiders on the page and dug out some rubber R/C wheels from their hiding place. I enjoyed Gary’s take on the balsa framing of the plane…I don’t have another model quite like it in my collection.

Well, this has been a fun week following this thread, and even though you have had your dearest wish fulfilled, (you should have asked for nicer weather), I still hope you’ll give scratch building a try.

I still intend to try scratch building but at the moment I'm struggling to build even simplest models.
I will however be building Gary's lovely Super 60. With, however, a couple of mods.
Firstly, I have to have dowels to rubber band the wings on like my own.
Secondly, I've been playing with tiny electric motors powered by capacitors.
From there, who knows !

Very nice job Gary. I have often thought of doing cardstocks of all those neat flying models I crashed or never did get built. Top of my list would be a Zoomerang (talking of pendulum control) from the very first model airplane magazine issue my Dad brought home for me in 1961.

May have to give it a go some day.

The top one came out of an E charger plane, a bit like the air hogs e charger planes.
I knew the designer and he gave me a load of spare parts to play with
and the lower one is the new skydrive for paper planes
