Navy K-Class Dirigible (Blimp)?

Good morning, all!

Another model I've been wanting to tackle (but which I lack the skill to design) is the Navy's K-Class Blimp.

They were used for scouting, patrol, and anti-submarine warfare during the forties and fifties- and they've always had a somewhat cult-like following.

Does anyone know if this model has been tackled and where I might acquire it?

Thanks in advance.

That's one on my list too.
So far, I don't know a papermodel of this blimp. There are two blimp models available that could be used as a basis to the design of a k-ship. One is from a member of the forum, bigbuddy94, that has done a great blimp papermodel from the "Grand Theft Auto IV" video game. The other is from a old german publicity offer.

We just need some good views now...

Some help:

Request for sources: USN blimps (again...) - Shipbucket

these are from a dead site.

Hi All,

And hi, selek7101. K-Class Blimps played a staring role in the 1945 film, This Man's Navy, directed by William Wellman. A synopsis of the film and some interesting trivia can be found here in the IMDB entry for this film...

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0038163/

Sorry I can't help you in your paper model search, but if you get the chance to view the movie, you'll be in K-Class heaven.

Best of luck.

Score and fold,

Thumb Dog

Great info on these famous lighter-than-air craft. I hope you find and build one, selek7101.

The K-class were both blimps (non-rigid airships) and dirigibles (meaning steerable, as opposed to free balloons).
