Curtiss c-46 Commando

I often enjoy the commercials from PME-Legends Jeans because of the historic planes used.
Latest now uses the Curtiss C-46 Commando. Again a remarkable oldie.

Couldn't find any pages or sites about a papermodel. Any designer interested to make this complex shaped plane?

How nice it would be to have a very highly detailed C-46 Commando. Why don't we ask Mr. Gary Pilsworth to do it? He is the genius of simple but accurate card models and perhaps he likes this aircraft. Also, the C-46 was not only used by the military but by several worldwide airlines. Mr. Pilsworth, take note! Thanks

Good idea. I'm sure Gary Pilsworth would do a great job with this plane.

Little correction to the title: should be Commando instead of Commander.
C-46 is a very interesting subject, worth recreating in paper.

Aaron Murphy did C-46 in Oddball Production days and it was available in 2 or 3 liveries on ecardmodels. From pictures on the net that model didn't look too well but I'm like to get one just to find out myself.

Aaron's C-46 was released in 2012...
and is not a Military Commando version.

It is very much Murphy's older style...a little rough around the edge...almost a handrawn look
and the model has no internals (formers or wing supports).
Granted it is only 1/68 scale, so it may not fully need it.
But I know many of you really appreciate and request formers of some kind.

For what it costs, you can't expect much more...
and there are no other models of this plane...

...
John Dell has a highly detailed and high quality C-75 which is the next best thing!
C-75 Stratoliner
At 1/48 scale. its a big model.

It would be nice to have a correct large scale C-46 in military colors (for me it's 1/33 scale ) . But I think most folks like smaller scale.

I did build the plastic model in 1/72 scale and that was a good size.

Have Access to a Flying C-46 at Local Airport

At the Kenai and Fairbanks, Alaska airports there is a company called Everts Fuel Service. They still fly the C-46. One of the pilots here in Kenai is a friend. If someone wants to have detailed photos, more than willing to help out.

A few Photos:

June 2018 C-46 Video

A friend was visiting with his Vans RV-9A that he built and flies. Flew all the way up from New Jersey. His RV-9A was parked in the transient parking area here at the Kenai, AK airport (PAEN).

While he was finishing up installing his cowling after an oil change a couple of old birds that are based here decided to go to work hauling fuel out to the remote villages.

Here is a Curtiss C-46 Commando Taking Off. Sorry, for the bad spots, it was really hard to see the subject due to the sun being behind me-the screen was very hard to see to maintain focus on the zoom in.

Here is the youtube link: https://youtu.be/sx4vxUL5_SQ

I did have a C-46 in the markings of the one on display down at Pima. I've been debating doing a redraw to clean up the older graphics
