Forced perspective models

Hi Everyone.
Some time ago when I was younger and Queen Victoria was still on the throne I took out a library book which had instructions for a card model.
It consisted of a box with an eyehole at one end and at the other a translucent screen.
inside were several layers of card with cut-outs so you could see past to the next layer.
Each successive layer was smaller in relation to the first in such a way that it gave the impression of great depth, greater than the container it was in.
I can remember making them for my godchildren i9n the early 80's, but cannot recall what they were called or how to design one.
Anyone remember them ?
Liz
P.S. can I just say that my steam powered computer hates me ?

If what you are looking for is a paper peepshow like X216H mentioned here is a site with a New York City scene template and instructions to make it.

Tunnel Books:A Victorian Peep Show
I think you are looking for "Tunnel Books" which were popular when Victoria still ruled the waves.

I am jealous of your steam powered PC, I would like to have one but it would take up too much space.

Thank you all for your replies. They bring back some very happy memories.
I hope anyone who has anymore information will post on this thread.
The next question is, how do you design them ?
Merry Christmas to you all.
Liz
P.S. I may be unobtainable for a few days as I have to decoke and relight my printer. It's not such a long job and the ashes are good for the garden or for kitty litter.
P.P.s. I've just discovered that, like the Titanic, my computer has four funnels but one is false. I've been shovelling coal into the false funnel trying to speed it up to no avail.
P.P.P.S. Does anyone know what fuel scanners run on ?

With photoshop it's actually insanely easy.Split picture into few layers, print them separately, glue into box like Mr Pilsworth shows.

Have you seen how old cartoon films were made?Few glass panels with different layers of whatever background on them and celluloid painter panels between them with characters (those are removable for each frame).

My memory from ca. 1952: one empty cardboard shoe box; a collection of Christmas cards thoughtfully saved from the year before by my mother; cotton wool to cover the bottom of the box; a sheet of coloured transparent paper, preferably red (the type we used to make kites with in a warmer season); glue and a pair of scissors.
Cut out figures, one or two buildings, a snowman, perhaps even a Santa Claus from the old Christmas cards and glue them to the bottom of the box. Cut out a viewing opening in one short side of the box. Add cotton wool for snow. Cover the box with the coloured paper. Then charge a dime to any grown up to see this year's box.
Sorry, I never kept one to show here...

Dear butelczynski
Is that why individual pictures from an animation are called "cells"
