Bristol 170 Freighter

I can't seem to locate a Bristol 170 Freighter in a larger scale. Anyone know of one or thinking of doing one?

The Pakistani Air Force also had B170s - even used them as bombers (there was a bomb shackle on the left side of the fuselage).

I'm not sure anyone who flew in a B170 would want to remember the aircraft - the propeller tips were a matter of inches away from the fuselage and the whole thing vibrated incessantly in flight as well as being effing cold and noisy.

Ummm ... does that mean you HAVE found one in a smaller scale? I'd love one in 1:300 ... Preferably with Silver City Airways livery.

Long been on my wish list too. A very interesting series. Freighter, Wayfarer & Super Freighter.

As John says Silver City colours would be good, but another that I found particularly interesting was Straits Air Freight Express (SAFE) and their "Cargon" system.

What scale? I have just sized a set of plans to 1/33 and it is very big, 1.6 by 0.6.

SAFE acquired some ex-Pakistani Air Force (PAF) B170s in the 1960s for conversion into car carriers and for spares. One of the additional things the Pakistani B170s had was numerous bullet holes - from bombing missions against the Indian Army.

I do remember a B170 story - this might be apocryphal - the PAF had a couple of accidents where the B170 wing structure failed and Bristols were concerned that there may be design flaw. It was found by the Bristol engineers that the PAF had been spinning the B170s as part of the type conversion training. This hadn't been mentioned in the manuals so the PAF thought it would be ok. Needless to say an urgent amendment to B170 operating procedures was sent out prohibiting the intentional spinning of the aircraft.

I was hoping to find one in about 1/60 scale which would make it 21.6 inch wingspan. I have not seen one in any scale at all.

I know somebody who might be interested in designing a model, if he can get good plans.
