USS Texas

Ok, I'm still hopeful that Darwin, or one of our other designers will do a really detailed USS Texas, but is there anyone here who would consider doing a children's version of the ship? I'd like to sponsor some sort of Fiddler's Green style version of the ship that could be used for fundraising. Contact me if you are willing to try and tackle the project.

I have drawings, plans, photos and more. It would be probably easier to do the WWI configuration, but I'm flexible. I'd really like to have the kit designed simply enough that we could market it to school children all over Texas and once again raise money to restore the battleship. It'd also be a great way to promote the hobby.

Wonderful idea Ryan. I think it would be a win/win situation. I have often thought about trying to drum up support for a few similar organizations. The CAF(Commerative Air Force) and WASP (Womens Armed Service Pilots) Museums come to mind. I would love to have something with Fifinella to hand out at the WASP reunion this weekend...maybe a project for next year. I hope you can work something out with the USS Texas. Of course, I would love to see a full detail version as well.:D

In the last 10 days or so I've seen on the news on the internet, that the State of Texas is going to build a dry dock around the Texas, pump the water out, and properly prop her up before the bottom falls out.

Now and then one of the fools in Austin comes up with a good idea!

I'll take them over the one's in California any day of the week. Actually, if they backed more of their talk with actions, it'd be even better...
I think it'd be great to start a drive to save the ship in seaworthy condition.

I had given some thought to re-drawing the USS North Carolina from the Wallis Rigby Naval Ships book. I would imagine the Rigby models would be of the simplicity you are looking for. Perhaps one of the Rigby ships could be used as a basis for a USS Texas model. Funny this should come up, I just ordered a book on the Texas. Doing models for museums and charities is something I’d be very interested in doing.

I have heard about the plans to build a dry dock for her. It would be rather impressive since most of the ship’s mass is below the water line. And it would show of her ram bow. It’s a shame more of the older battleships were not preserved.

I've got access to CAD files, have a larger set of plans, a profile book, and an older set of plans that were in a magazine. If anyone's seriously interested, send me an email.

If I wasn't finally getting the B-24J close to being done I would of loved to give this a shot. I look forward to seeing how this model turns out.
