need help in design C-2 kfir in rhino

hi to all
after a friend of mine ask me to tray my knowledge in rhino and redesign the IAF Kfir intua spotting version
i decide to gave it a tray

i found that the only thing i need to work on it is the nose
so i start

i work on it for full 3 days and this is the best i can do using pic only without any drawings

the only problem i have now is to unfold the section 3-5 in the last pic

any idea how i can fix it?

Smile How about break the parts down

If you separate the parts and have 4, 5, and 6 individually, will that work? Not exactly sure what is your specific issue. If you can clarify. You mean you can not get a flat pattern for each? If so you will have to get read of the compoud surfaces.

Looking at the nose, I think they started with cylindrical and conical section and then added flat surfaces on the sides and another one they rounded off in the back.

Here is a link to another picture of this plane, but you have a good detail of the nose.

By the way, I did see this plane at the IAF museum years ago ( not sure if they displayed that nose though ).

I would suggest doing the nosecone and then adding the camers as an additional part. Easier to make that way.

This way you are trying to use to many compund curves, which are very difficult.

Haven't done many 3d designs, I do most of mine 2d so, to me a couple of different parts are easier to work with, vs., a combined one.

Best regards,

Parts 3 and 4 are definitly flat patterns. If you separate them, each will un fold ( or made flat ). For your model those sections should be made one set for the left and one for the right side of the nose. Part 5 is now basically a conical shape with flattened sides. If you keep it to 2D curvature you will get it to flatten.

Part 6 is really a conical shape and can be made as a complete 360 degree piece with 3,4 and 5 added later ( that is how I would design the full scale nose ).

Keep at it.

What scale will you plan this at?

Did you "run rails" to make those parts? If not, I would suggest that you do, as those type parts unroll ("unroll developable surface", command) well.

Pretty much Mike suggested, I think would work best also, would help keep the nose cone stronger as well, rather than having several parts coming together to make the nose.

Heres a REALLY quick example of what were saying, as well as a .3ds of the example if you want to look at it in 3d.
