HD.1 Telégrafo I Ecuador
In 1920 an Italian pilot, Elia Liut, made the first flight over the Andes in Ecuador, traveling from Guayaquil on the coast to Cuenca in the mountains.
For this he used a HD.1, war surplus, which he named "Telégrafo I" in honor of the newspaper that sponsored the raid. This and subsequent flights over Ecuador persuaded the government to establish an aviation school on 27 November 1920, giving rise to what became the Air Force of Ecuador. I designed a commemorative model Telégrago I scale 1 / 45. Is well advanced but still need to finish the prototype. |

Looks good. The Ecuador flag post and the volcanoes/mountains that make up the display stand are a great touch.

Very nice model and diorama! Also a nice tribute to a hero.
Just a sugestion, you may paint the edges of the wings, wing supports and wheels to hide the white cut paper. |

I love when there are cross references.
I was reading today a book about the early years of the aviation in Colombia, and there is one page devoted to this Ecuatorian plane, the "Telegrafo". The book says that after the historical event of crossing the Andes, the Telegrafo flew from Ecuador to Colombia. The pilot was Ferrucio Giuccardi and landed in Cali in April 1921. It was huge news because the Telegrafo was the first airplane to land in Cali. Are you planning on making more models from the aviation history of Ecuador? |
