Steampunk Robotica in Sketchup

Taking a break from my Starship design (still got the block) and started to design my idea of a Steampunk Robot. this is a weeks progress so far. I might have had the whole leg designed, but Ive been working alot lately. Let me know what you think, all HONEST opinions are welcome, positive or negative.

Might seem a stretch at first, but your foot design reminds me of the steam spider robot in the Will Smith movie Wild, Wild West. That would be a fun model to build, and your new design must be at least as intriguing. Please continue the good progress.

Revamped the "ankle" and worked some on the lower leg. Had to go through a few different designs before actually finding one I liked.

Very cool, Rick. Are the screw heads seperate parts? It might look better with the slots in the screws going in different directions. Do you have any sketch of what the completed robot will look like? Or are you going to torture us by revealing one part at a time?

Those aren't screw heads, those are the ends of the pivot pins. and they are seperate parts. My goal is to build a 6' version of this when its been completely designed, so having it so I can take it apart is a good thing.

and I have no idea what this will look like, Im shooting from the hip so to speak, I show you what my progress is as I get there.

This is even more ambitious than I would have guessed. I like the idea of designing as you go. I will definitely stay tuned to this one so I can see how it turns out.

I think it looks great, you've got "a leg up" on the design, stick with the flow and all will be fine. The character of face will be hard to start. My father in law's might fit well, if for an evil part. I would use my own father's, to give it a good heart!

Ive always been a "Fire from the Hip" kinda guy. it allows me to make changes and adaptations as I go. there is less disappointment that way yanno.

I've been thinking about that too Zath, at this time im thinking of something along the lines of a cross between Johnny 5 from Short Circuit, Wall-E, and C-3PO.
