1/400 scale small bits
This is a test of the smallest bits on the next project. These are shipboard 50 cal brownings, water cooled with the tombstone mags. The gun was photo'd on a no 11 xacto blade and mm scale in the backround. It was a little fiddley but do-able. You can probably replace the barrel and pedastal with .6 or .7 piece of plastic about 2 1/2 long and 3 mm long. The shoulder rest is a piece of copper wire 1/2 the diameter of a 1.5 mm circle. The rest is in the info gathering phase, with a few parts trial designed....

Another test shot, this is the process I use to design a ship. The part has to be tested for fit, assembly order, also wether a part needs to be printed on card stock or thinner typewriter paper. This was all thin paper and needs to have the main parts on card stock and the fiddly ones on type ...

Cool!
I just love the fine work on this one, Ted. I wonder what you will be building around these fiddly bits? Were they part of the Wichita armament? Cheers! Jim Last edited by jimkrauzlis; 05-31-2011 at 06:45 PM. |

yes they were Jim. I have the hull under developement but started going stare crazy, so I started on the fwd top most deck. I'm waiting for a profile booklet on the Wichita so I can get the decks correct. I have 2 conflicting blueprints and drawings from a later war version. In order to keep up the Before the Storm theme I want to build her in the Neutrality patrol version. She sported 8 - .50 cal mgs, 9-8" main guns, and 8- 5" secondary guns. This version still had an armoured conning tower, older firecontrol equiptment and more deck space on the bridge area.

A good choice as a transitional cruiser (kind of an 8-inch-gunned Brooklyn?).
The tiny parts are great and the water-cooled .50 was a very distinctive part of the pre and early war armament of USN ships. Don |

Squinty Scale...,
Good to see you back Ted.
You've entered the "can't focus it in macro-mode" scale better known as really squinty scale..., It'll be great to follow along with your build. Best regards, +Gil |

Well guys thanks for the inquireys. The project is still a go although time is at a premium. I have to renew my trauma quals, rehab my repaired ruptured achilles tendon, practice up for the monthly muzzleloader shootin' matches, work, try to stay off obesity, solve the world economic crisis, save the Helenes, rejuvinate Japan's economy, spank North Korea and Iran, issue a stern reprimand to Pakistan, get those G-damn reality shows off TV, restore Charlie Sheen to 2 1/2 men, repeal Osama care, er Obama care, insure Bin Biden er bin Laden is really dead, read the new Dune books, build some of the stack of models, print some of the ecardmodels, and build them, eat, although not too much, re-kindle my relationship with "The Other" er my wife, play with the dogs, all 3 of them, keep my kids in college for their declared Majors, not the Drinking, sex and party 101 they seem to be excelling at, but i will refire the old new( Dell) ee laptop and get back to doing what I like the most designing and building card model Ships!!!!!!!!!!!!
