Gil's researche and superb illustration and design work and Mark's excellent model inspire me to reread Sailing Alone Around the World.

The scale is 1:250, to go with my HMV models. It uses carbon fiber splinters for most of the rigging. The picture doesn't show it, but the counter on the stern came out good. A bit tricky to glue together, though. It is shown sailing but not heeling, and I was worried it wouldn't look right, but the winds are light, so it's OK. I lost this model ( and everything else) in the fires in California, but I had the files for it in the cloud, so I can build it again. I wanted to improve it a little, then offer for free on this forum. I did a bit of sailing in my youth, and Captain Slocum was always someone I admired, so I wanted to build a model of the first vessel to complete a solo circumnavigation.

Joshua Slocum was one salty dog and besides he was one of those indomitable characters that popup ever so rarely in history. Sorry for your loss in the Napa fires - at least the digital model remains safe in the cloud - a lesson for us all.

I should pickup on the Spray once I find a little breathing space. I seem to be in high demand because of some strange ideas I've had for how the human brain works and how to transpose those ideas into silicon.

One of the things that I was puzzling over, when I last left off, was how to build the hull so that it would have the look of the original without too much work. Still thinking about how to go about it. Maybe I'll get lucky and have an inspiration to finally nail it all down.
