I have several things I focus on when laying out parts:
1: Part orientation = I always try to get it so rolled parts roll with the grain. 2: Get the biggest part to fit on the page, the fill the spaces with other parts, or construction diagrams. 3: If there are any large gaps, they're "intended" for laminating, or as a scrap for putting glue on. |

I wanted to thank everyone for their input. I have decided moving forward to dispense with the historical commentaries on the parts sheets. After reading some of your comments and then looking over the sheets again it seemed the historical stuff detracted from the instruction information. Thanks again.

I too, for what it's worth, think the Historical Data is in a way as important as the model. On it's own sheet, it would serve as a good backdrop for a school project, or photo shoot. In the very least, and in some ways, what's most important, is that the History follows and tells a story. When I was a kid, I thought the Monitor and the Merrimac were the only Ironclads, and the B-17 was "the Bomber" of WW2. It wasn't till older that the B-24 and all of the other category bombers were even mentioned.

Aaron has the right philosophy. Overcrowding sucks and non-sequential parts on the same page is a nightmare!
Looking forward to those B-24's John. Niki |

I wanted to ad that I also try to get parts organized so they're close to where they go on the model. The Canopy goes on the same sheet as the nose (if I can), and fairings, fillets, turrets, intake thingies are clustered close to the section they go on.

I will continue to provide a history of the aircraft portrayed by the model on the parts diagram page. I’d like to include more historical information if I could but my time to work on these kits is usually rather limited. I’d like to spend most of it drawing the models. Plus I’m not much of a writer. I have another model ready to release except my wife has to proof read the histories I wrote.

That's why I don't include much information on the models. I give the specs if I can find them, and let ecardmodels worry about the history.

I always hated English class because they always wanted me to state something in 3 pages that I could state just as well in 3 sentences.
