My new Voltron model

Well, I decided to remake the Voltron model I made a few years back. Some may remember it most probably wont. First off, this model will be much more detailed and difficult to build than the other one. I actually plan on making two versions, one fairly large transforming version (not sure on scale quite yet) and a smaller static much less detailed version based on the Blazing Sword Voltron action figure released recently (haven't modeled this one yet). It won't be textured but built with colored paper. I designed it from the start with that in mind. Not sure at this point how I will release them, whether it be one at a time or wait till it's completely test built and free of errors then release it all at once. I'm leaning towards the latter at this point. The stand is based off of the unreleased MPC electronic talking stand. The weapons will be removable and will be able to be held by each lion as the jaws will be hinged. The badge in the front of the stand slides and reveals the Voltron key which then slides to the left to "activate" Voltron. On with the pics.

Going to spend this weekend unfolding the black lion and test building.

For anyone who may ask. I plan on building up my Camaro model here very soon as I just purchased enough color paper to do the final build. I will get it released as soon as I can get the build done.

P.S. There's a few pieces missing from the Black lion pic, had a scaling problem with them so they will be in a separate file.

build update

The white parts are actually a sparkle silver color, doesn't show up very well on my phones camera. The green thing in the first pic is a ceramic bladed knife from a company called slice products, takes some getting used to but once you do it's amazing considering the fact it never needs sharpened and as long as you use it for it's intended purpose it shouldn't ever break. The two drawbacks I noticed is the blade is a bit short and can be a bit difficult to tell which way the blade is oriented.

build update 2

Main portion of head and chest emblem done. I used paperclips for the pins in the ears to make them pivot. Build is kind of slow going as I have had to go back and remodel some pieces to make the build easier or parts that just didn't unfold well.

Build update 3

Finished the black lion head. Used the tips from wooden cuticle tools my wife seemed to have an abundance of for the teeth. The fit is pretty tight, probably more so than I would have liked but not so much it's not buildable. I'm hoping I can finish the build of the black lion by Sunday night.

This is awesome! I should have my parents pull out my old Voltron set from my old room back home. Can't wait to see this thing progress.

Build is mostly complete all that is left to do is the rear feet and the other wing. Should be able to have the templates finalized over this weekend.
