Laz-7M 1/32 precise card model by Emil Zarkov

Hi all,

It's been a long time since I made a post.
I'd like to share what I'm currently working on.
After the publishing of the Laz-7 I decided to extend the collection with
the M modification. The main difference is in the engine of the model.
The Laz-7 and Laz-7M saw military service in Bulgaria and were good
for shooting down spy balloons on Bulgarian territory.

The kit is almost done. It will come in 2 different color schemes - civilian and military.

Regards
EZ

Thank you everyone for the kind words!

One of the things that should be executed in the early design stages when the geometry of the model is created (using drawings and other documentation) is checking its authenticity. The best way to do this, is to use some authentic existing pictures of the model's prototype. But how to do this? I found the answer and receive patent for it. The method calculates the placement, orientation and focal distance of the camera, by which the picture is taken. Now if you place a camera it in the 3D model space in a point with calculated coordinates, orient it by 3 consecutive angles that you already know, and calculate the projection of the model on its focal plane, you'll receive the same image as those on the picture used. If there are differences in the objects and their models interpretation, it will be clearly visible. Now this abilities are part of my SurfMaster pack, despite that there are some more work to be done - eliminating the ambiguity, enhancements in statistics and user friendly interface and exceptions processing. On the attached illustration you can see the model's drawings placed over the pictures of the real aircraft.

Best++

I love your design! I would have only added weathering in Photoshop!
And always disliked the upper central axis line scans on the fuselage and wings. For the rest, I feel for you as a developer a lot of respect

Cool Polish version

Always interesting to see variants of the Yak-18.

Here is one I saw in Cracow museum a few years ago.

Thank you very much.
Please note that the Laz-7 airplanes were used during times of peace.
They had to be cleaned very well. Every spot, dirt or any kind of weathering was sanctioned. This is why they always looked like they were fresh from the factory. The first thing that maintenance personnel is obliged to do after landing the aircraft is to clean the canopy, then to rearm and refuel the plane and after that to do repairs if needed. This is done in order to have the plane ready for battle as soon as possible. During a war there usually is not enough time to make the small repairs so there is weathering. But as I said, the Laz-7 was used in peaceful times.
About the central axis lines. In my opinion the model looks better with these lines drawn on because they emphasize its geometry. They are also useful for the building process and help you avoid twisting and deformation of the parts.

Despite the visual similarity, the Laz-7 and Yak-18 are different planes made in different times. The early Laz-7 was built with a Walter Minor 6-III German radial engines and the entire airplane was designed on the base of that engine. Later this engine was substituted with the Shevtsov M11 Engine (the same as the engine of Yak-18) and the fuselage and cockpit of the Laz-7 were also redesigned to adapt to the new engine. This is why the two airplanes started to look similar.
Here is a picture of the early Laz-7 which looks very different from the Yak-18
