Silhouette Model Restoration
About a month ago I picked up some vintage WWII silhouette models in great condition. This is not a direct copy (I'm trying to find a way to make a reproduction as well), but a close representation that I am hoping to finish up in the next few days.
If I can get my Beta done tomorrow, I hope to print out a few copies to take to the event we're hosting this weekend. Oh, and Inkscape is a wonderful tool. Ryan

Here's the original "kit" for reference....
It's 1:72 scale. Ryan

I'd love a set of these Silhouette ID craft.
Way back in 1942, some US Marines were regular Sunday Dinner visitors at my Grandmother's house. Among the things they gave her was a pack of Silhouette playing Cards, featuring every major then known Allied and Axis aircraft in 3-view. That pack of cards still exists, and these models you are re-creating are an equally valuable memento of that era. I'm looking forward to seeing this series evolve, Ryan. Kind and Respectful Regards Ryan, Uyraell.

Very nice. I was thinking of doing something similar with the one I displayed here. Silhouette models (both the paper and plastic variety) turn up regularly on eBay, and go for fairly reasonable prices (mostly. It *is* eBay after all).

Somewhere online I once came across a bunch of scans of these silos.
I took the time to retrace one (He111) but never got around to printing or cutting it out. Some of them are fairly complicated to put together. Look forward to your efforts. Joe

I love these old cardboard silhouette ID models, and have picked up a few over the years. There was two series of them, all in 1:72 scale, issued around 1942-1943. One , with 105 models, was issued by the US Navy. The ID numbers for them are S-XX. The other series has 78 models, of which this Taylorcraft is one. This series, with ID numbers that are CM-XX, was issued by the US Army Air Corps. A lot of them overlap, and the technology and designs are the same. There are by my reckoning 105 distinct models.
All part of the effort to train the anti-aircraft crews what to NOT shoot at, I think.
