Tabs

Why don't designers color the mount tabs? I think they should be colored same as part they link to. I think it would be a lot of help having to edge color only. Some models out there are made that way I think it makes for a faster and easier build.......Rich

Hi Rich,

Been testing this idea on some of my most recent designs. Was wondering if the ink would effect the glue at all, it hasn't yet.

Does make it easier and faster to build, without the "conspicuous" white showing if the connection is slightly off...

Actually: most tests were done with only half of the tab with color, but the last build (redstone rocket) was done with whole tab colored.

For separate glue tabs, it's almost universal that they're now coloured as the part is, on models from big publishers at least.
For tabs joined to the parts, I think the new version of Pepakura already have a function to colour the basal section to match the part colour.

But yeah, I don't think there is a reason not to.

Pepakura 3 does have two options to color the tabs: one completely colors them with the neighboring face color, and the other overflows the paint by a specific number of millimeters around the entire part. Two options I wish it had are to overflow paint on the tabs only, or set the tab color. But for sure it is easier to assemble a model if you don't have to spend a lot of time coloring tabs
