Now where all details are added to the body, the basic shape really looks round like an egg. Very well done!

Really looking good. The shape looks like a smooth egg, and the details look fantastic. One thing though, the flanges that hold the tail to the body; should they be centered over the joint? Like, one half on each side, with a bolt through the center holding them together?

Thanks Thorsten, i particulary appreciate your comment, nothing compares with your LZ and your Shuttle. When do you restart the work on this last one?

Good question, alfadoc!

As you can see in the pics below (source "Atom Bombs" - author John Coster-Mullen) the rear elliptical casing ends, with the flanges on the edge (look at the red circle)

Fat Man (F31) at 1/24-rearellipsecase.jpg

But the tail assembly has a sort of notch (red circle) on the edge, because there is an overlapping of the tail cone and the end of the ellipse.
This, may be, for to better contrast the torque moment of the tail.

Fat Man (F31) at 1/24-tailassembly.jpg

In the last pic you can see the Tail attached to the ellipse with the flanges "apparently" shifted relative to the joint.

I hope this solves your doubt.

Best, Nando

PS: On the prototype, I put the flanges on the edge. I didn't follow my instructions ...

Thanks! I fear that I still don't have enogh time for the shuttle to be continued. As longer the break gets, the more time I'd need to understand where I stopped, and free time gets less and less from year to year. But in the moment I've 4 days free and I'm working on a little surprise related to the Zeppelin...

Enough OT, back to your fantastic model!

Thorsten

Tail #1

A productive day.

I'm putting a lot of pics in this thread because I'm collecting them for the instructions. Sorry for the boring repetitiveness.

Best, Nando

Clear as day. Actually shows your keen eye for detail. Bravo!

Tail #2

The aerodinamic renforcement on the edge of the fins.

The inside rear spoilers

The plates of the "hopper"

Just a check

Starting from the bottom

Continuing on the left

Next tomorrow: it's better to slowdown to avoid some disaster...

Best, Nando
