A-1 Skyraider
Okay guys I know there is some interest in this model and I always kinda wanted to do one so I'll at least start on it(keeping with my habit of having multiple projects going at once).
Just so you know I've started building a real airplane as well and all things paper are on the back burner. Just so you have some idea what that might mean it took 3 years for the XP-72 to get finished, although I was working on the militarized Super during that time. So you may be looking at better than 10 years before this is released. I downloaded the 3-views from airwar.ru but neither Rhino nor Corel Draw likes them, so any reference is appreciated. Also I don't know a lot about the different versions (I prefer the single seaters) so please let me know which is the definitive version, or the one most of you would like to see.

In 1962 all ADs still in service were re-identified as follows:
AD-5 to A-1E (multi-seat) AD-5W to EA-1E (multi-seat) AD-5Q to EA-1F (multi-seat AD-5N to A-1G (multi-seat) AD-6 to A-1H AD-7 to A-1J The A-1H and A-1J are appropriate for the Vietnam era and can appear in Navy, USAF, Republic of Vietnam Air Force or Special Ops schemes. The earlier AD-4 would be appropriate for Korean War service in Navy or Marine Corps colors (pretty much solid blue with white markings.) The Brits, French and Swedes used various versions, especially the big-bellied AEW versions (Brits and French) as well as target tug mods (Swedes.) These were mostly multi-seat versions. Let me check my library for some reliable refs and drawings. If you can lay your hands on the latest 1:33 GOMIX/Fly version it might help in the design process...just a thought. The book "Douglas AD Skyraider" by Peter C. Smith, Crowood Aviation Series, 1999 is of great help sorting out the development and service of the aircraft. It might still be availble at outfits like Alibris or AbeBooks.

Nice Will. I'm partial to the single seater version myself . So I would say the A-1H (AD-6) version.
What format would you like those 3-views? They are .TIFF format from the zip file. Otherwise, check your email for another reference sheet. |

Jpegs are probably best (unless someone has some cad files somewhere).
I might end up doing an E model just because Col. Fisher is a hero of mine, and Hill AFB Museum has an E painted the same as his aircraft.
