X-Craft RN

Hi folks,

Thought I'd move this thread to a new one as the cat is out of the bag, so to speak.

Anyway, to recap. It is a Royal Navy X-Craft midget submarine and will be designed to a scale of 1/24. Giving an overall length of 650mm and beam of 73mm. It will have a cut-away section of the hull so as to display some interior detail.

General arrangement drawing

Progress so far:

Pressure hull

main compartment interior

My Design skill are somewhat limited, so this project will be a mixture of computer and hand-drawn parts. I am using Autodesk inventor for the 3d stuff and Serif Draw Plus for the 2d detail and colouring.

It is my intention to release this here as a free download, exclusive to Papermodelers.com.

All the best and happy modelling

Bernie

It's already the second X-craft kit that is being designed and built. Here is another one:

I was going to mention that but thought I'd let you off what with the wondeful FAA set and of course all the Anderson models
I do seem to remember you saying something about a R/C one you had built though.

Many thanks for the responses folks.

Good call on the Konradus site, I'm planning on using similar construction techniques, only bigger. Just typical, you wait all this time for a decent X-Craft and then two come along at once!

Gary, what software did use for yours?

All the best and happy modelling.

Bernie

If the X Craft arena is getting crowded, has any one considered doing the German submarine crawler, the Seeteuffle. Its got a little of everything, tracks, propelors, torpedoes, flame throwers ....
