I’m glad to see several of you are as excited about this model as I am. I’ve been a hard core B-17 fanatic since I was a young child so I really want to get these right.
This model will be in 1/48 scale just like the B-24s and Stratoliners. I always include reduction percentage information for those who may want to scale them down to 1/72 or 1/87 scale. Issac, I wasn’t planning to do separate control surfaces. My background is in illustration so my engineering skills are pretty basic. I’ve posted a detail shot of one of the Stratoliner vertical stabilizers so you can get an idea of what the B-17 control surfaces will eventually look like. And don’t worry, no “petal” engine cowls on this one. I always thought that was a strange design choice on the Fly B-17G. If you check out my B-24s and the Stratoliner on ecardmodels you will get a good idea of how these kits will look and go together.

I love all the graphic details you are already including. Is nice to see more than just the panel lines. The rivets in a Fortress are part of their visual identity
This will be lovely.

more details
Hello B-17 fans. I am really glad that John had finally gotten around to doing this B-17 series. I too was born with, or developed at a very young age, a deep interest and love of this airplane.
Most everyone that "knows" me here a PM.com, knows me as Swampfox, some also know me privately as Anthony Sanchez. I've been helping John with test builds for a couple of years now, and with the introduction of his B-17, figured I'd quickly "Out" myself just to keep things simple as to who I am. As I do these test builds I take lots of pictures so that we can discuss design, construction and fitting problems that pop up during development of the model. I will post additional images to John's, as comments and questions arise. These additions are being done at John's request to me, so please don't think I'm trying to hijack his thread. For the most part I plan to watch from the back of the room and enjoy this show with the rest of you. click to enlarge Here is a small example of my B-17 graveyard of some of the B-17's that have been test built so far. There are parts, I recall for B-17E, F's, G's and maybe even a couple of earlier variants in this image. This image shows the White paper build of a fairly complete B-17G fuselage..... , This is the tail gun mount for the early G's. Lots of detail and some interesting looking pieces. (Front and back views) Thanks, Anthony/SFX |

Watching the NASCAR race from New Hampshire and they used a B-17 for the flyover. Couldn't see the markings to know which one. Not that knowledgeable on them.
