Mantraro, I’ve been following the construction of this very large RC B-17E. It is interesting to see how you did the moving control surfaces and their linkages. I wonder how many channels this model will have? Will the landing gear retract like on your B-24D? Very nice work, I really look forward to seeing a video of it in flight.

Mathew, my wife has been reading “A Higher Call”. I am considering doing this B-17F at some point, though I’d also like to do Stigler’s Bf 109G to go with it.

Paperguy, I saw “Heavy Metal” when it came out. Thanks for posting that link. What a blast from the past! The B-17 segment of the film was the best part of what is, a very strange film. I recall seeing a magazine article at the time on how they did the animation for that segment. A large model of a B-17 was built and filmed than the animation was rotoscoped from the model footage.

The Fortress I is progessing well. I'll try to soon post some photos of the camo test builds.

I'm reading the book as well.
Its is a very good book, I am enjoying it very much.

As for the Messerschmitt Bf-109G-6, I have a very nice G-10 model.
I'm sure the G-10 is the same as the G-6...
I might recolor it into his fighter sometime soon.

Hi John,

could you tell me when the early B17 version will be finished? It was A or C (do not remember)

The next kit will be an RAF Fortress Mk. I, which is what the English called the B-17C. I posted a link to a nice video showing the RAF Fortresses a few posts back. Hopefully I’ll get this kit done within the next couple of months. So far I’m making pretty good progress on it.

My wife seems to be enjoying "A Higher Call". I have not had a chance to read it yet myself. I did thumb through it. I was hoping there would be some decent photos of "Ye Old Pub".

I hoped the B-17C would be from the Philippines with nice red/white stripes on the tail. I am collecting models with that painting. Are you going to make such version as well?

Kubeksus, yes, at some point I plan to do some of the B-17C or Ds from the Philippines in the early months of the war.

I recently read the book “Fortress Against the Sun” which deals with these early war B-17s. The book describes how after the out brake of war, the natural metal B-17s were quickly camouflaged in olive drab over neuteral gray. I imagined this camouflage would have been applied rather crudely. I came across this link which apparently answers my question in the affirmative.

Or how about a shark fin in the Hawaii Air Depot paint scheme.

I figured the RAF Fortress Mk. I would be a good place to start as they were the first B-17s to go into combat. Plus they have really interesting paint schemes.

Honestly, the whole "Ye Old Pub" story... well there are plenty of more significant B-17Gs... just saying.
Other, more significant B-17s to me are Suzy Q, The Swoose, etc.
