Browning .50 Cal M2

well so far my drawings / templates have been working out so now i will start posting what i have been drawing and building for that last little while:

Browning .50 Cal M2 (Aircraft / boat version)

the cooling jacket in real life is almost 2 inches in diameter and in this photo my cooling jacket is a hair short of 1/2 inch,.. which i suspect makes this build 1/4 scale?

anyways here is the side plate cut out next to the cooling jacket

any inside radius cuts were actually made with tiny drill bits on a dremel
and other various sized bits for bigger holes

lots of light cuts and multiple passes to not chew up the piece

paper used is thick cardstock file cabinet dividers laminated together to get scale thickness (just a hair over 16th of an inch once laminated)

will be edge glueing with CA to seal/hide laminations once painted its virtually undetectable
heres first two pics

You got my attention. Been wanting a Browning 50 cal, thought about designing one myself but never got around to it. Can't wait to see more.

It's an awful big bullet isn't it? We had some empty ones that our parents bought us from the local army&navy store,.. My brother cut it in half and used both ends on a cane when he was a drill instructor

I like what I see! Quarter scale will give it good detail. John, you really need to find your model cartridge files. Ammo for this model would be a great addition!

Heck yeah!! I wonder if there is brass 1/4 scale ammo already in existence ,.. Other wise it's paper rolling time,.. Heck I could probably use the sharp end of a rounded toothpick for the bullet,..

I added what will be the sides of the top and bottom plates,..

I also used a wee bit of testors putty to simulate rounded bevels on rear plate,..

I could have built it so the individual sub assemblies came together like the real thing but ,.. I am building it this way so I can have the entire side constructed nice and flat and really layer the details like the real thing

My apologies to the pic being upside down I uploaded it from my phone,.. Also ignore the splotchy appearance that's the CA glue being coated on to the paper to reduce paper fuzz when I give it a shot of primer

I may also cheat and use pin heads for the rivets or may use glue to simulate rivets not sure yet
