TKS for Salyut

Ladies and gentleman, TKS-4.

Once in orbit, it was named Kosmos 1686. It docked Salyut 7 bringing 500 kg of water and other stuff, that was later transferred to the newly launched Mir core module.

This is a simple 1:80 model I designed to go with Yogi's Salyut space station. This here is a prototype. If it proves to be good, I'll assemble another with corrections and mount it on a repaint to create the configuration of Soyuz T-15 mission: Soyuz - Salyut 7 - Kosmos 1686.

Printouts:

Cut out parts (my son's Salyut 1 orbital complex is cheerleading here):

More to come.

Sooooo... It didn't work out.

As you can see:

First of all thing's too big. And I ca easily manage that. Next, the hull is too long, which is also no problem, and so are the panels, which is also not a problem.

Now, the front conic is, like, two times too long, and I got no knowledge on how to adjust it. Is there any simple way to do it?

I guess I'm back to the drawing board and blueprints. I'll post again once I redo the model.

By the way, may I ask one of the admins to move this thread into design forum?

Hi Godai,

I have a copy of a file by Robert W. Blaske called Shroudcalc that quickly calculates the conic shape required to give you what you desire in a cone.
All you do is plug in the top diameter, bottom diameter and the height of the cone and it spits out the shape to cut out.

Google for it.

Here's a handy online solution to your paper cone/transition part needs...

PayloadBay.com - Rocketry Tools

All you have to do is input the desired upper and lower sizes and the length and it will generate a printout template for you. If you want a cone, simply make the upper size as 0.001 inch and it'll generate a cone template.

Later and good luck! OL JR

Per request - and you obviously found it again. Pretty sure I left enough breadcrumbs on the trail.
