Playing around with Sketchup
Maybe, just maybe, I'll actually finish this one with Waybe.

You can do it, Ryan. You just need to shut down your other hobby activities and DOOOO IT! It helps if you enjoy the modeling part - it is important that you like that part as much as the building, I think.

Carl, what you talkin' 'bout? I don't even build the things half the time!! :D Honestly, for me the design work is what it's all about. It helps if I like the subject, but even so I usually just print a copy and let some other lucky modeler do the beta-building. Keeps me from having to many models just lying around.
Anywho, looking forward to seeing more Ryan, particularly as I work in sketchup as well. I think it was you who turned me towards curve stitcher and a few other good plug-ins and tips which have served me well. |

A little more progress was made. This is a bit easier than trying to get all of the curves right on a plane. I got tired of one of them I was working on. Honestly, I haven't built (well, finished) anything for quite a while. The rest of life is interesting, necessary, and keeps me quite busy enough.
I'm hoping that when this is finished it will be a quick and easy unfold with Waybe, then another quick and easy import into Inkscape for further vector work, and final touch up in either Inkscape or a combination of it with Gimp. I guess you guys already know what it is? Ryan

Another update... I think I'm basically happy with the hull shape, and the exterior of the turret. It's not perfect, but then neither is my ability to make Sketchup do exactly what I want it to. Now I will throw in some details and decide how far to finish out the gun, turret, suspension, bogies, and tracks. I figure that I want to be able to build it myself - so it can't be too entirely difficult. This will hopefully be my first actual completion and I'm thinking that this will be a 1/72 release, but I might be convinced to change my mind and release a larger scale as well.
BTW, the plans I'm using are nice, but don't match up with each other even though they are on the same page! So, if I eventually do finish this and you find something that's not 100% accurate, that's why. I've had to guess at some things, looking at pictures and trying to figure out what I'm going to go with. Ryan

I think you should be very happy with how this is coming out. It should make for a nice model.
I hear you where the plans are concerned. I'm using two different sets of plans on my project because the elevations on each set don't match with themselves or each other. Par for the course I'm afraid. |
