I worked on Sea Kings and was involved with the restoration of the fleet for the Navy. We overhauled about 70 Helicopters and fitted them with the 5 blade elastomeric hub, new motors. The craft were stripped down the bulkheads and all skins were removed (considering they were chemically bonded it was quite a job). I do know that the remaining Sea Kings in the Navy (US) have had their lifetime extended substantially. I believe Canada will be very happy when they get their S-92 Sikorsky Helos.

We lost a Seaking recently because the engines were replaced with ones that were beyond substantial... unfortunately the electrical system was'nt.

The Sea Kings were supposed to have been retired by 2000, but the air force prolonged their life by spending $80 million to keep them flying until 2005. The Sea Kings require 30 hours of maintenance for every hour of flight, and they are unavailable for operations 40 per cent of the time.

Just a case of a used vehicle way past warranty. Still ... with all the new tech out there ... the Seaking is still aptly named despite it's age.
