Interesting vessel Avery. The sailors who took her to France must have been very brave men. She looks like her sea keeping abilities would have been somewhat limited.

Yes, they would have been quite limited! Monitors are infamous for being susceptible to even the slightest amount of weather. At least two were lost to bad weather (Monitor and Weehawken) but if they were properly equipped they could survive long voyages-as the Onondaga proved when she made the journey to France.

Here is an update for you all. Spent a lot of time on Passaic, so not much done recently, but Passaic has been released and Onondaga is starting to move ahead. Adding detail to the midsection.

Wow, that is so cool - I have a thing about disproportionate armaments e.g the cannon-armed B-25s, Tsetse Mosquito and Hs-129...I've just seen Modelik's latest, the river monitor Udarnyj which looks like it comes from the same stable as the Arkansas-class...

You should read the original book by Clive Cussler though, it does have an ironclad, but not the Texas. And has less explosions and such jibberish...

I don't think anyone can get enough of the Monitors. I love those ships. Great ship and subject!

Thanks again for the interest and kind words!

Some more work, starting to look like a paper model. The turrets are the same as Passaic, which has sped things along considerably.

The trip across the Atlantic was not seamless as you can imagine. I read an account of it. Shoot, wish I could find it right now. Once she was there nobody wanted to bring the thing back.

Yeah, the story of the Confederate iron clad steaming across the Atlantic is ridiculous, compiled with winding up in the Sahara, ridiculous**2. The book isn't even well written and the "willing suspension of disbelief" turns to "UNWILLING...." Still, book better than movie but where is the surprise there.

Good luck with Onandaga.
