Dave,

Today is Lock Martin's 100 Birthday. Odd coincidence or is it?

There is a P-47 thread where the guy is doing this will lots of pictures showing progress.........

Check out MilanPaulus's Ferraris. I believe he uses what is called Spackling compound in the U.S.

Yes, both of these show exactly what I am thinking of! Looks like Spackle adheres to paper very well. I may try this on the larger scaled helmet to see if I can do it without making a lumpy mess.

You could try making some paper mache (or papier maché if you prefer) clay and use that.

Yeah, I did a little of that for the Earth v Flying Saucers alien. I tried filling in a little around his shoes. Worked ok, but my first attempt, it looked a little lumpy. Gotta up my filling skillz, as the kids say.

There's a reason for "test" builds...

So, I decided to finish out my "test" build of the helmet. I had a huge brain fart and glued the visor on upside down
Having realized my mistake too late, the glue was setting, I went ahead and just put the visor sides on upside down too. I thought of trying to conceal it with the band across the top of the visor, but I decided to just call it a day. There's a reason for test builds. And this is one of them
The good news is I unfolded all of Gort, and it looks like I can print it on my standard letter size card stock and it will end up being about 18 to 24 inches tall! That size may allow me to get the smaller parts assembled (hopefully!)
Here are some pics of my "test" goof up...I should have thrown a ruler in the picture, the helmet is roughly 2 in square...pretty big.

Heh, Cory. Stories like that make me feel better about my oopsies . You're not alone my friend, not by a long shot. There's a reason we keep wastebaskets by our side while working and it's not to keep the work area neat and clean either . Thanks for being a good sport about it. Looking forward to your next test build.

Does it matter if the visor is upside down - remember, there is no 'up' and 'down' in space. Also, and more importantly, remember this is a test build - where you get it wrong to get it right.
Helmet looks good, by the way.

Ha ha! Thanks guys! Yeah, I'm going to keep on it until I get it right

I think the upside down visor only really matters because it has a curve that is supposed to fit the rest of the helmet. Just a bit, but enough where I should have known better

So here is a shoe with the helmet. It's about 4 inches long...this is going to be a big build I think.
